Who on here works out regularly? I'm looking to work out on a more regular basis and also looking to clean my diet up a bit. What low fat foods should I look to for regular consumption in my diet? Likewise, what are the best foods as far as Protein/amino acids for building muscle before and after my workout? I know Salmon is very good... nuts pack a lot of protein as well.

Any and all suggestions/discussion welcome!
 
Salmon is one of the best foods you can eat, and tuna isn't bad either. I am no diet/fitness instructor but I have some experience in diets/workouts. I purchased the P90X program as seen on the infomercials. The diet and workouts included worked great for me and several guys I work with. I did not finish the full program, but within the first four weeks I lost 15 pounds (178 to 163 lbs). The best part of the program is the diet guidelines. I dont know if you can find the diet book on ebay by itself, but it might be worth looking for. I ate a lot of grilled chicken breast, vegetables like broccoli, carrots, and cauliflower. Fruits in moderation are also a good idea. For snacks I have always heard a handful of plain almonds is one the best snacks anyone can eat. I also ate a lot of protein bars. The best tasting bars I have found can be purchased at krogers. The name of the brand is ProMax, and I especially recommend the cookies n' cream or chocolate chip cookie dough (they taste just like a candy bar, seriously). The most important thing I found out was just watching the calorie counts, and be careful of consuming too much carbs. Also, be sure to drink plenty of water throughout the day. One thing I will do different when I attempt the diet once fall/winter sets in, is that I am going to treat myself to a decent meal (not included in a diet), to prevent myself from getting burnt out to developing too much temptation (my weakness was Chipotle, pizza, and candy). My big thing is I don't have a naturally big frame, so I need to eat right to allow myself to put on muscle... losing the little bit of weight I want to (probably 10-15 lbs) won't be a problem once I start running consistently again, but putting on muscle is another story... I'm 5'9" 160, I'm not a twig, but I'd like to add 10-15 lbs of muscle if possible.

I've looked at the P90X program several times, just never pulled the trigger... have also looked into the "Insanity" workout program.

A guy I work with did the p90x program and then did Insanity. He didnt follow the Insanity program too closely because he noticed that he was losing too much weight due to the extreme cardio. P90X has three different programs, and it can really help build muscle. I didnt think I could ever develop muscles, but the strength and muscle development after four weeks was awesome. So I would give P90x a try instead of Insanity since you are wanting to put on muscle and are not too concerned with weight loss.
