What would you rather happen given only these two options.

1. Win The Big East and get invited to the Orange Bowl and get smacked. Really uncompetitive beatdown. Something like 52-10.

or

2. Finish 8-4 or 9-3 and win a solid bowl verse a solid team. Beat FSU or UNC like 28-17 in the car care bowl? In this situation we will also said WVU wins the Orange Bowl.

I am not sure if we can absorb another BCS loss I would take my chances with that. Winning a conference championship 3 out of 4 years would be huge. I think either situation would be good. I am not positive that the BCS beatdown is the way to go but I just can't pass on the conference championship. Perception would suck but trophies are real.

I think it would depend on who we are matched up with in the BCS bowl. It's possible we could play the ACC winner like a few years ago in the Orange Bowl. In that case, I really don't think it would be a beat down. Maybe it would, but I think we could beat anyone in that league with the exception of maybe Clemson. Even then, I don't think it be the beat down you think it would, jmo.

I do agree with you.

I am asking if you were forced to decide. We could play Army or Alabama in a BCS game. It doesn't matter. Lets say we get blasted. Is that better than a solid bowl win?

It is obvious for me - would rather play in a BCS bowl and risk getting blasted. Just the hype leading up to the game is worth it, imo. You never know what happens in these games with key turnovers, etc... Getting there and assuming we will get blasted is just a defeatest (sp?) attitude, shouldn't be tolerated as a fan.

I totally am with you guys on this. However, I am not asking for what risk you would rather take.

We are assumming we know the outcome of the game. We either 1. Got blasted in BCS game or 2. Win a solid but smaller bowl game.

Only options.

As a fan I'd obviously take the win in a solid bowl (if it was versus a good bcs team like FSU or UNC). One because its a win, and two its builds momentum for the next season. I don't think the Big East can take another blow out in the BCS so if WVU won like you said, it wouldn't be a terrible scenario.

However as a program/administration the BCS game brings in a higher payout and it helps to market the program. Also since we are in the Big East it would mean that we won the conference for the 3rd time in 4 years.

Obviously I totally misunderstood the thread. It is hard for me to think in those terms. So I guess it would be similar to if I totally miss the bowl game on TV and it was on the next day, would I watch it? The answer to that for me is I would only watch it if they won. I know I wouldn't watch it knowing they got blown out. So to answer your question, I would definitely take the win in a non-BCS bowl.

I would still rather play in the BCS game. Conference championships are underrated and should be a big deal IMO.

Also, I think 52-10 is pretty unrealistic. That is almost twice as bad as Florida beat us and everything possible went wrong in that game and we probably played the best team in the country. Nobody from the ACC (likely opponent) is anywhere close to 42 points better than we are.

BCS smackdown, no question. As you said, winning a crappy conference 3 out of 4 years is still winning a conference 3 out of 4 years. Proves we're better than Pitt, Syracuse, WVU, etc. regardless of who the coach is.

Really?? Definately the BCS. Does anyoen remember the fun of the 1st Orange Bowl??? How about the Sugar Bowl??? My goodness, I wanted to beat Florida, but honestly, even though we were undefeated who thought we truly had a shot? Florida had been top 3 all season...mostly #1 I think. It was the experience man! All the buzz the month leading up to it...anyone??
