^^ More importantly G is one of the only guards on this team that is strong enough to finish around the rim.... Had a nice take today.. He also shoots the ball a little flat... Wish that open three would have fallen for him tonight...

Everyone saying they can see the potential in Lawrence.... Ugh, cant stand that word. Defensively hes a hole right now... What makes you think he will be able to score the ball???? All his points this season have been garabage put backs.

Him and Shaq fall under the dreaded "potential" category.

He has had a few bad games, but he showed some great driving ability against NC Central. He rebounded well today and he was completely mismatched defensively, and that is on the coaching staff. At one point, they had him on the 6'9 270-280 pound NC State kid. That just isn't fair, I'm glad Mick finally realized it and subbed Jackson in to counter sheer size with sheer athleticism. I also will give him a pass due to him only playing a handful of games his last two years of high school due to injury. It's hard enough when you have played many high school games, but when you come in rusty like he did, it is incredibly hard. Shaq is very frustrating to watch right now, I was hoping he had turned the corner at the end of last season.

How can someone not see potential in Lawrence? Bottom line, Mick is a recruiter of potential. His players are rarely ready when they get here. JJ's potential is finally becoming talent in year 4. I think Lawrence will show his talent much sooner.

Team chemistry looks much better this year. They're playing much smarter. FT shooting looks better. Wish Mick would recruit a pure shooter at least occasionally. Overall, I think we'll see this team improve a bunch as the season progresses. It will be a good team by season end.

I don't think that Mick is a good coach at all and it will show, I also believe that he's in a relationship with a certain person and it will become public soon! Great win for the cats but a question mark on the program! UC will become a low major d1!

- Micks personal grudge against Jerry Davis... Blew up on him tonight. I can honestly see him transfering.

I don't think it's a grudge, a turnover and a personal foul in two minutes, against an opponent of that caliber will get you benched...

I think you're either an NC State fan or Jeremiah Davis(or possibly someone in his family). :p

That was a pretty concise effort for it only being the second game of the season. Didn't get to use the word "fun" when watching many games last season, last nights game was fun to watch.

Rubles and JJ have improved a ton from last year. I agree with the poster that said Sanders might end up in the starting lineup soon. Great defensive effort out of him and he's not as passive on offense as he was last season.

I know JD3 is loved by many but he needs to defend if he wants minutes. His man blew by him on consecutive trips up the floor, that's why he got the hook. That's what is great about this team IMO, if the sophomores and juniors want playing time they are going to have to get after it. The freshman are playing quality minutes and will only improve as the season goes on.

Maybe with the arrival of Johnson and Caupain JD3 simply got recruited over. Particulary with Caupain.

I was very impressed with the Cats last night. This was the first time since.....well forever really....I can remember the offense looking that efficient under Mick. I don't think I saw the shot clock drain under 5 seconds the entire game. I saw us getting the ball to our guys in the block on post ups and actually saw our bigs back people down and score at the rim. I saw guys moving without the ball and saw several cuts to the rim.

Two freshman really stood out to me. Caupain just looks different than a lot of recruits we've seen here in the past. I'm used to seeing athletic freshman who don't have a lick of bball IQ but Troy seems to be very cerebral (oh, and he can shoot FT's). I really liked what I saw from Kevin Johnson too. He has a lot of room to grow but you can tell he's smart and he really understands the game of basketball. He knows how to move without the ball and I saw him execute 3 or 4 really good cuts to the rim. In time he'll learn how to finish with the ball in his hand and hopefully his shot will develop, he could be a special player.

The defense was tough as always and I also though Mick did a great job of using the press in the 2nd half. Kudos to Mick and his staff, I was very impressed with what I saw and hope this continues and wasn't just a flash in the pan. I think we can all deal with the growing pains that come along with having a lot of young talent if the team plays this brand of bball all season.

I liked that late in what was a close game the Cats pulled away. Too many times last year leads, and wins, would disappear down the stretch. Troy knocking down FT's was pretty nice too!

I know that people on here like Kevin Johnson a lot and he will be a good player here in a few years but I really wish that Mormon was able to get minutes over him. Johnson has not made one shot this year. He is 0 for the season so far and airballed a 3 last night. Sure he moved without the ball and made some nice cuts and has good quickness but he can't hit the broad side of a barn with his shot. He hasn't gotten to the line either which means he isn't getting in the paint. You can really tell that he is a kid and Rubles, JJ, SK are men. Just too bad that we can't redshirt Johnson and have Mormon play this year.

The kid is pressing. It happens to a lot of young players. He will be fine. He just needs to see a shot go through the hoop. I'd like to see him slash a bit more and not rely on the 3, at least until he is a little more comfortable. Mormon, like KJ, won't see the floor enough to make an impact this year. Based on that, I hope Mormon does red shirt. Look what it did for SK. You can see the difference in SK this year compared to last year.

A couple games ago, I thought KJ looked far better than Caupain. He's had back to back tough games. I think he is every bit the player Caupain is....and I like Caupain. This is not putting down Caupain. It's a compliment to KJ, but I acknowledge that his last couple games have been rough.

I'm still puzzled by redshirting Morman. I think he might be the best pure shooter of the freshmen. We've already heard he is a lock-down defender. I've seen his head above the rim in pregame warm-ups, so I know his athleticism is off the charts. Why redshirt a guy with so many talents. Kilpatrick had no athleticism, no ball skills, no defense, decent shooter....much more appropriate to redshirt him when Mick did. This is an up-tempo, full court pressing team where speed, athleticism, defense, etc would be a nice compliment to that style of play.

I agree that he needs to see a shot go through to get going. To be fair Caupain has not made a shot from the field either but he has made 7-8 FT's. I really think if Mormon was healthy that he would be eating minutes from KJ and TC, especially with how cold and ineffective Johnson has been. SK did improve a lot, he has the drive and determination to get better and lead by example, hopefully these young kids see that and follow in his foot steps.

All of the players looked good a couple games ago, ie. we were playing exhibition games. Not as much pressure and competition really watered down. I don't want Mormon to redshirt either but if he is going to be hampered by a bad hamstring for half of the season it is a no brainer. IMO in a perfect world KJ would redshirt.

Just accept the fact that in all likelihood, Morman will redshirt. When we lose SK next year we'll need somebody to step up and fill his shoes. If, and that's a big if, Morman is as good as you hope, then he'll be very useful for the next 4 years of eligibility, and we'll have an exciting team. (Off topic) Sure wish we had a 5 now like Kentucky or MSU. How would you like to see JJ up against either of them?

Doesn't everyone?! lol When I was watching that game its not even fair. Those players were freshman and looked older than our seniors.

We had 3 players in double digit scoring...JJ, SK, TR. Every player with minutes had 1 TO except for JJ (2), and TR (0). We had 3 players with 7 rebounds or more...JJ, TR, and JL. Only 3 players with assists...SK, GG, and TR. We are shooting about 74% from the line this year.

Our movement was much better. This team should play well against man to man teams this year. It looks like an 8 man rotation is starting to develop. There were 8 players with 16+ minutes and the other three had 5 or less. I would like to see at least one more guy step up and into this rotation between JD and KJ (assuming we have two redshirts)

Mick hasn't recruited strong 5s for the most part, nor has he recruited pure shooters. Somehow, he still wins. Go figure.

UC needs a real coach, Mick is not a good coach at all, there are more people on the team than SK, no disrespect to SK because he is a nice player but UC will only make it as fare as their Athleticisms takes them, because Mick Cornin can not coach and don't have the ability to coach a team to the promise land, or develop basketball players, that's why some of them look like they do. I feel bad for the 2014 class, if they have signed already, they should go somewhere else, where the knowledge of basketball is thick, and play for a coach who can develop kids and coach! Mick is not that guy.

Sorry But the truth.
