For the Rockets, Jackson lines up at defensive end and most schools are looking for him to transition to an outside linebacker position. Jackson is comfortable with a transition.

“In ninth grade I played linebacker, played middle actually. Then they moved me to defensive end in tenth grade.”

While past experience should make the switch easier, Jackson still enjoys using his speed from the defensive end spot.

“I like playing end because you know I don’t like the fat boys to touch me, but at linebacker they come off. At end I got the upper hand because I’m quicker.”

It does not appear Jackson will be making a commitment any time soon, like many of his teammates already have done. He plans to visit Kentucky “for sure” and probably Kansas State as well, before coming to a decision.

“I really don’t know I got a whole season,” said Jackson on when he will commit. “A couple of my teammates they made their choice already, but I’m just prolonging it.”

That season Jackson is talking about is one with lofty expectations for Miami Central. After getting past arch rival Northwestern, they fell to Miramar one game away from the state title tilt in Orlando. It is something that drives Jackson and his teammates the first couple practices of the fall.

“We’ve been working hard you know, trying to get to our destination of state. We miss out last year and we are just trying to reach that this year. We are doing everything better than we did last year, we’re working harder, we’re running harder, everything.”
