Re-classified to '11. He is going to Prep at Brewster Academy. He can play either guard position and has a college ready body. His leader appears to be Baylor at this point, but Cincinnati has had him in for a recent visit, and continues to work hard to build an Indiana pipeline.

This young man was first team All-State in Kentucky, and plays with fellow Bearcat recruits in Jeremiah Davis and Vinny Zollo.

Graded out by ESPN at 91, "Guyn has high-major size and wiry length for a lead guard. In the Beach Ball Classic, the heady point guard was the best in the event at making decisions with the ball in the break either finding the open man or scoring on a pull up or floater."

He has offers from Providence, Boston College, Rutgers, New Mexico, Dayton, Iowa State and Baylor. He has already enrolled into Brewster Academy will start school in September. That makes him part of the 2011 class. He is playing for Indiana Elite on Mark Adams team. Hope you get a chance to see him play in the video game below..

Article ESPN Recruiting:

Ge'lawn Guyn SG/PG (6-3, 175)
2011, Georgetown, Ky. /Brewster Academy, (Indiana Elite- Mark Adams)

This combination guard has excellent size. Guyn has long arms and a wiry strong body. He is a good athlete who can finish above the rim in transition and scores with baseline slashes to the basket with touch and body control around taller defenders. Guyn can attack the lane with either hand but seems to favor going to his left as he hangs in the air for an athletic pull up jumper or floater. Guyn knocked down a couple open three with time and space as well. He was open on the arc because his defender played off due to him being such a threat to get in the lane with his quick first step. Guyn was an impressive passer as he penetrated and kicked to open teammates and he also made pinpoint passes against full court pressure down the floor. His size allows him to see over traps and deliver the ball with ease over a smaller defender. Guyn is a versatile enough to be affective with the ball or playing the wing. He seems to be more comfortable on the wing but he has the tools and talent to be a play the point with game repetitions. Guyn is an excellent on ball defender that plays with urgency. His hands are active and his feet are quick enough to beat the offensive player to where he wants to go. His stance looks great and he has the ability and size to defend all three perimeter positions.

Nice! I hope the dominoes start falling for the class of 2011 including Chane recommitting to the Cats!

How many scholarships are we going to have in 2011? 5? 6? I don't remember and I am too tired to try to figure it out. I would love to see Jeremiah Davis, Chane Behannan, and a couple bigs in that class. Guyn is a great start! Almost forgot about Kristian Smith. 2 down in 2011. Would still like to see Davis, Behannan and a Center.

Ge-Lawn Guyn had an impressive spring, but he’s not waiting for the summer to make his college decision.

The 6-foot-2 guard committed to Cincinnati on Thursday, choosing the Bearcats over Baylor, Providence, Rutgers and Western Kentucky.

“The biggest thing was his family could see him play,” said Guyn’s uncle, Thomas Muhammad. “It is only 45 minutes from his house.”

Guyn, who is running with Team Indiana Elite on the AAU circuit, recently picked up an offer from the Bearcats after visiting their campus, and he clearly liked what he saw.

“He got along with the coaching staff and the players; they showed him a lot of love,” Muhammad said.

Playing for Team Indiana Elite this spring on the AAU circuit, Guyn impressed NBE with his play in the Bob Gibbons’ Tournament of Champions as he did a little of everything against M33M Elite on the event’s first night. Guyn ran the floor well, finishing baskets in transition and finding streaking teammates for baskets of their own. Guyn has a good build and body and is a versatile perimeter player. He can shoot three-pointers from behind the arc and also get to the basket for finishes at the rim.

Guyn will do a prep year at Brewster Academy next season after playing at Scott County Senior High School (Ky.) this past season.

He was originally committed to Charlotte, but opened up his recruitment after almost immediately regretting his decision.

“I think he was star-struck after his visit,” Muhammad said. “He visited the Bobcats’ facility, and no one had ever treated him that well before. He called me after he committed and thought he made a mistake. He felt the same way a few days later.”

Despite offers and interest from several high-major schools, Guyn is somewhat underrated on a national level. As a result, his goal this summer is to make it clear he can make an impact in the Big East.

“He’s not one of the top-ranked kids, so he feels underrated. He belongs in the upper echelon of players,” Muhammad said. “He’s never been invited to LeBron or NBA camp, so he wants to show, you know, ‘I’m here.’”

Guyn joins 6-foot-5 wing Khristian Smith who verbally committed to UC back in April as 2011 verbal commitments to the Bearcats. Smith is also heading for a prep season after playing his senior season at Pike High School in Indianapolis, Smith heads to Maine Central Institute for the 2010-2011 school year.

I had a great conversation with Scott County senior Ge-lawn Guyn tonight about his choice to attend Wolfboro (N.H.) Brewster Academy.

Guyn feels that he made the best choice for himself.

"I feel like it was a great decision. I'm going there to get better. I have battled tendinitis in both my knees basically all season long and I think a season there will allow me to improve my game," Guyn said.

Ge-lawn said he has earned offers from Baylor, Virginia Tech and Ole Miss along with several others that would like to have him now but he felt a special bond to Brewster.

He explained, "Brewster came when no one else was there. I picked up these offers late but I felt close to Brewster."

He added that he intends to keep his recruitment open during the next year and will see how it plays out.

Guyn will head to New Hampshire in September, but will join an AAU team this summer.

"I'm going to play with Indiana Elite this summer and our first tournament is coming up on May 1 in Ft. Wayne (Ind.)," he said.

Guyn will join an already loaded AAU squad that includes Vinny Zollo, Jeremiah Davis and Matt Carlino.
I asked him how he feels about living in New Hampshire for a year and he answered, "I'm just going there to play ball and be a great student and citizen."

He admitted that it will be difficult to leave Scott County.

"Playing as Scott County was great. I love my coaches and my teammates. I love the fans. The bottom line is that I love Scott County."

Ge-lawn added, "I just hope everyone will wish me luck and tell me God bless."

Wonder if he will be helping to recruit Jeremiah Davis big time this summer. Couldn't hurt, right?

No it couldn't. Maybe if they play well together, Davis will want to come along. I feel UC has a better chance at landing Davis, then the other "top" recruits UC is going after in the 11 class.

Nice job guys. I have company in town, and I'm busy entertaining.

Good to get another commit. Verbals always leave me a little uneasy until they can sign. Hopefully this kid can play the point in college. Cash needs a back-up and a replacement once he leaves.

Good to see a commitment but I'm still in wait and see mode when it comes to basketball from this point forward... frankly, the 2011 class has yet to shape up the way we all had hoped so hard for it to two years ago...

This is a kid in the Sean Kilpatrick mold that I think fans will end up being very happy with. He missed half of last season with some tendonitis issues. He has really played well and impressed in AAU ball this spring. Good get by Mick and company in the big picture. Especially if Cash is going to continue to have knee issues. Good speed, good ball skills, good on the ball defender, good basketball iq, athletic, and can hit the open 3.

Unfortunately that really doesn't help the 'Cats this season... if Cash can't go or isn't 100%, this season could be another one without post season play... things, for me at least, are very tenuous right now on the basketball front... Show me Mick... I want to believe and I've supported you throughout this process but no more reasons why this program can't do something... it's time for results...

I've been waiting for your take on this kid. Sounds like a good signing.

I'm worried about Cash's knee issues as well for this year. Parker's not really a true point guard and Dixon is probably our third option at the point (unless Kilpatrick can run it). They would all be exposed against the tough Big East guards. As much as I didn't like Vaughn at the point he at least held his own for the most part because of his strength and experience. The Cats really need Cash to remain healthy this year.

With that said I'm looking forward to this season. I still think we will be much improved. And I'm glad Mick has got an early answer at the point for the 2011 class so we're not sweating it out next summer like we did this year.

I hope we don't have to add him to the '10 class. It seems like he would benefit from a year at Prep school. One thing we all have to agree on is Mick's eye for talent. He doesn't always land those he wants, but the guys he goes after tend to be underrated and eventually all the big boys want them. Look at Chane Behanan, he is now a 5 star recruit. Sadly, if I am to believe what I have been reading on most sites, it is unlikely that Chane will be coming to UC.

I've been waiting for your take on this kid. Sounds like a good signing.

I think a year of prep would be good for him for different reasons. 1) He would come into college with a better academic base. 2) He is a strong kid, but wiry in build. Because of his strength he is considered to be college ready but another year to gain strength and body maturity could be big.

There is an outside shot this kid could qualify for 2010. If that happens we know it is "an insurance policy". Mick understands he can't win in the BEast with one point guard. Another year would be good for this kid. He could mature and come in and give solid minutes. Also, with only one true SF on the roster, Kilpatrick/Parker/Dixon will have to play some at the 3. Maybe this motivated the Cats to continue to look for some potential immediate backcourt help. He is very good on the break with his decision making and can get to the rim. He also has good body control and uses it to finish.

As I said, he'll be a good get long term. Hope he does his prep year and honors his verbal. Signing for this season to me means there are some concerns from the coaching staff one way or the other (health or depth). He does have good skills and a chip on his shoulder. He feels he has something to prove and I like that in a player.
