Guyn, who is headed to a prep school after finishing his career at Scott County last winter, gave a verbal to Cincinnati late last week. He's playing this summer with Indiana Elite and Mick Cronin did a nice job of getting in and landing him before the summer evaluation period begins. He will certainly draw a lot of attention with his improved play.

Ge lawn Guyn

Since it feels like im the only UC fan in KY ever since UK started winning again. I was able to see this Kid play with my own eyes and he is very good and deserves the scholarship UC offered him, we should be happy hes on the team. When his team played i think it was Ricardo Johnsons and the big boy they have down lows team Ge was the best player on the court without a doubt. Hes a very good athlete that has a good shot and is a jet with and without the ball. In the 2nd half of the game he took over, he kinda of reminds me OF Jaquon because hes so competive and will show enthusiasm when he scores or someone else does something good also. I think once he plays for his prep school and a new set of rankings come out he will be in the top 150 of all of them. I think KY at one time was really thinking hard about giving him a scholarship had he not had problems with his knees.

Ge'lawn will make a decision later this summer on playing in 2010 or waiting till 2011. I just shared with some of the board mods that I too felt that his initial contribution would be similair to Jaquon's. Brewster and UC start school around the same time so he has a window for his decision. After playing pick up games on his visit, the Bearcat players actually lobbied for Mick to offer G. Obviously Cronin made ground up quickly and got the commit.

Three players with local ties - Donnie Hale, Aaron Cosby and Ge'lawn Guyn - are ranked among the top fifth-year players from the Class of 2011 by The Hoop Scoop.

Hale (photo), a former New Albany High School star, who will attend Bridgton, N.H., Academy, before heading to Purdue is ranked No. 8 on the listing of top fifth-year players nationally.

Cosby, a former Manual and Jefersontown star is now at Northfield, Mass., Mount Hermon and is ranked No. 12. Cosby has committed to Seton Hall.

Guyn will head to Wolfeboro, N.H., Brewster Academy before he goes to Cincinnati. The former Scott County star is ranked No. 15.
Texas commitment DeAndre Daniels is ranked No. 1, followed by Brewster point guard Naadir Tharpe.

Cincinnati nabs Scott County guard
Former Scott County High School guard Ge'lawn Guyn will be signing a letter-of-intent with Cincinnati at 11:30 a.m.

The 6-foot-3 Guyn was one of the top seniors in the state last season at Scott County and had originally committed to play at Charlotte.

But after his senior season, Guyn opted to attend prep school for a season. He's at South Kent (Conn.) and will then be at Cincinnati next fall.

Guyn averages 12 points, four rebounds and four assists as a senior with the Cardinals.

Ge'Lawn continues his run of double digit assists. In 22 minutes he recorded 10 pts., 10 assists, 5 reb, 3 steals and 0 turnovers in his latest game. Wow, a 10-0 assist to turnover margin!

If Shaq and 'Maine can fill it up the way they are going to be counted on to when they get here, Ge won't have to worry about scoring much and that's all he'll have to do... run the offense, find the shooters good looks and play defense. Love it.

You forget that Gates, Cash, Dixon, and Sean will all be back. The burden to contribute won't lie as heavy on the younsters shoulders. I love the base that's being built. I truly do.

To be clear, I meant in the future, not next season. You have to figure Ge (and Davis) will have the most difficult time of all the incoming freshmen when it comes to getting minutes. Losing Biggie, Thomas and Wilks means we need Bigs, so Ellis is going to play, even though physically he probably won't be ready, imo. Bishop's spot will be a glaring hole and an opening for someone. The PG spot will be Cash's at 30 MPG. Ge and Jeremiah will be able to work themselves into the rotation slowly their first year and the continuity this program is finally starting to breed again after the long road back will be beneficial for their learning curve. It's very pleasant not having to count on incoming freshmen to be leaders anymore (though some are simply by nature).

Good post. Agree with everything you said. I would expect one of them to redshirt. It would be nice if there was a highly thought of big man out there who is looking to transfer as we have an available scholarship this year, and can add someone prior to the start of the second quarter. He would then be eligible after exams next year. If a senerio such as this does come to fruition, it would be nice to redshirt Ellis so he could become physically stronger, and also to even out the classes.

As an aside, I watched the Cuse-MState game last night and thought how nice it would have been to have Adriene Payne as part of this years class. Hope he is homesick.

He looks about on par with the scouting reports out of high school that I saw at this point: Highly athletic, good motor but very raw. I honestly think he and Jackson are pretty comparable, though their ranking's were world's apart.

^^Because of Payne's height, his upside is much higher. He, like Ellis, needs to add weight, but if he can tap into his potential, he is an NBA player. I'm not sure if we can say this about JJ.

yeah if you watch payne against duke you will see this guy has MAJOR potential great hands and good touch around the rim if he adds strength he will be an all american
