The New England Playaz simply could not keep Goodlett out of the lane. The 2011 guard was able to get to the rim at will, and with his length and athleticism he was a problem once he got there. His first step is very quick, and that allows him to be a factor though he can over dribble. Still Goodlett did a good job of setting the pace for New Heights.

“Coach [Bob] Hurley was a good coach,” Goodlett said. “I just didn’t like the way everything fit for me. It was a commuting problem. It took too long for me to get from school to home.”

Why Jefferson? Well, proximity certainly played a part. But when asked why he made his decision, he said head coach Lawrence (Bud) Pollard and assistant Seldon Jefferson as the reason he chose the Orange Wave over other prominent Brooklyn squads. Goodlett has known the pair since he was very young.

The 6-foot-3 defensive stopper will likely fit right into Jefferson’s starting lineup with the graduation of Dave Coley (Stony Brook) and the transfer of Thaddeus Hall (Word of God in North Carolina). He and Davontay Grace should make up a formidable backcourt.

"He is a tough Brooklyn guard who is hard to guard and loves to guard,” Pollard said of Goodlett. “He helps us on 'D' and he is into [the team concept]. That's what our team needs."

Goodlett can very well be an impact player in vaunted PSAL Brooklyn AA. He was chosen this week as part of the team representing New York City and the United States that will compete in Turkey before the FIBA World Championships later this month.

“We get to represent our city, represent New York, show them what we’re capable of doing,” Goodlett said. … “It means a lot to me. It feels like I accomplished something. But I have more to accomplish. This is the first step.”

The next step, he says, is winning a championship at Jefferson and then earning a scholarship to college. Goodlett counts Cincinnati, Rutgers, St. John’s, Siena and Marist among his suitors. The Bearcats are the favorites for his services right now.
Goodlett says he wants to play in the Big East and by transferring to Jefferson he’ll be playing in New York City's version of conference. The division features defending PSAL city champion Boys & Girls, perennial national powerhouse Lincoln and upstarts Robeson and South Shore.

His good friend Mike Taylor of Boys & Girls, who he’s playing with on the team going to Turkey and with Kingdome at Dyckman, has already predicted the Kangaroos will win at the Garden again. Goodlett doesn’t think so.

“They’re not getting the ring,” he said. “Jefferson is getting the ring this year. That’s a promise.”
