'11 PA RB Jameel Poteat (UC Verbal 12/22/10)

My dream scenario at the RB position this year (speaking in the context of now, with what UC has to work with):

Poteat and Tyler Williams... most of the high profile schools have really backed off of Tyler because of his mediocre season last year but I believe he's poised for a breakout senior campaign and the interest will heat up during the year... the combination of the two of them could be very fun to watch 2-3 years from now...

I know it's still early, but I'd take any running back at this point. Having Poteat and Williams join Bearcat nation would be fantastic though.

I would be shocked if UC even took a verbal from Tyler at this point. He is a lesser version of Shaq. I think Poteat could go anywhere in the country.

Another guy I REALLY like is Tre Mason out of Florida. His highlight film is extremely impressive. He'd be perfect for the spread offense. He's not as highly ranked as Poteat but I'd be just as excited if he committed here. We definitely need two RBs and a great second RB would be Thomas Rawls. He's a bigger, more solidly built back but also has great speed and would compliment some of the smaller, shiftier backs we're after. At this point I'm really hoping we can land any two of Mason, Poteat, Rawls, Abernathy, Seymour, Gordon or Gilbert. There's also a JUCO RB named Aaron Harris who lists Cincinnati as a school of interest although we haven't offered yet. Harris is the top rated JUCO RB and his highlight film is absolutely sick.

UC wouldn't take a commitment from Williams at this point. They are recruiting him as a slot receiver last I heard. Another guy who could be a RB for UC is Miles Schuler. Everyone else is looking at him for receiver but the staff likes him as a RB.

There's an article on the Rutgers' Scout site that says Poteat is close to making a decision and wants to be done with the process. Doesn't have a definite timetable but it sounds like something could happen before too long.

I have a very strong suspicion Poteat will not be a Bearcat. Of course I could be wrong. It does sting a little Pitt is loading up again on other running backs and the guy wold rather go there to stockpile the position rather than come here and do something spectacular. Of course, I understand he had family who went to Pitt (NFL play Hank Poteat is an uncle or a cousin I believe).

There are still some very good running backs out there that will come here. I am confident that right guy will come in time. Butch Jones has done a tremendous job so far as far as recruiting.

There's no doubt about that. However, we need to land a RB (two would be better) who is capable of playing at a BCS level, especially considering RB's are more important in Jones' offense than they were in Kelly's...

Yeah I have to remind myself that even Pead was a mid-level 3 star and #64 overall RB in his class. It's more important to find the guys that are going to fit in the spread offense well. We still have several prospects on the board that are in that 'star' range so we just have to focus on bringing one (or two) in. I still think we might end up with a JUCO RB in this class before it's all said and done.

You mean like Aaron Harris, a 4 star JUCO recruit. His video is sick.

Yes, Harris is exactly who I was thinking. And yes, his video is extremely sick. I'd take him and a lesser rated HS RB to develop like Rawls or Abernathy and forget all about Jameel Poteat.

Aaron Harris is pretty legit. Has unreal burst and just runs away from people. Plays against top competition too.

I am not so sure that Poteat would fit all that well in this spread offense. I have been hearing conflicting reports about whether he is fast enough or shifty enough to play in this offense. I don't really buy it. I would take him if he wanted to come here. I think Butch would adapt the offense a bit to suit him if necessary but I also think he is going to decide in favor of Pitt unfortunately.
