Believe the coaching change at Oklahoma will take them out of the mix.

jeff what do you think about the highly rated guards that committed to arkansas like that young kid. do you think mick would look at him even though we have so many guards as is? because i have heard they are interested in pulling out of their commitments

we had interest in Robert Goff once upon a time- Oklahoma's one signed recruit. not sure if we'd go after him or not. it seemed as though either us or him waned on interest- because he visited early on in the process but never came back as far as i know.

My take on the scholarship remaining is that UC will use it on a big unless some unbelievable talent comes out of no where.

Some on the Arkansas boards think Ky Madden will leave Arkansas because of the coaching change. I think if he leaves he still goes with a southern school. Great talent and ranked as the 27th player overall. Just can't see him here. As good of a point guard as he is UC needs a big man.

The UC/Robert Goff interest had cooled considerably prior to him committing to Oklahoma. Goff is solid defensively and has some explosiveness to him, but I'd take Jurik (who I believe is a WVU lean for more reasons than one but UC is still in the mix) or God's Gift ahead of Goff.

With the Sidney Lowe situation at NC State coming to a head, I'd like to see Mick take a look at Joseph Uchebo if he opts out of his commit. He's a helluva rebounder and a top 100 player. Back in December at the National High School Hoops Festival he pulled down 25 boards in 30 minutes. Julian Royal who committed to Georgia Tech would be another high school PF worth looking into but I have to think for the sake of class balance and need you try and sign a juco.

1. Agree on Goff.

2. Uchebo is interesting, but doubtful he leaves that region.

3. Julian Royal is another kid we recruited, but doubtful he leaves the state of Georgia.

Bottom line: Southern kids love to play in the South.

Agree about the tendancy of southern kids. My belief is unchanged in regard to the need to sign a juco big.

No doubt that it is a need.

BA1, my big concern is class balance. If you can't get somebody who is solid, don't have to be spectacular, then I say go ahead and get a big bodied frosh and maybe redshirt Ellis. I just think a guy like Jurick can fill a need from a defensive and rebounding standpoint immediately.

i would guess that ellis is likely redshirting regardless

No way if all you have is Gaines, Gates, and Jackson.

dont forget the juco big. i think ellis will be special real special after some work on his game but he wont be able to contribute more than 5 solid minutes next year and he would benefit from being a redshirt.

There is no JUCO Big yet.

but you dont want to force players who are not ready to play to play. it sounds as if we will be bringing in another big man regardless.

you do not need 2 true bigs to play in the big east anyways. our style of play is modeled after Louisville. who was technically their "PF" this year? Kyle Kuric- a shooting guard coming out of high school.

Phillip Jurick (6’11, 265, C) Chattanooga St. (TN) – Jurick is one of the best big men left on the board. He has great size and great length. Jurick is an excellent shot blocker who would be a nice addition to the front line of any program in need of 2011 big. He visited Southern Miss last weekend, current Southern Miss assistant and former Chipola coach Greg Heiar has been heavily involved in his recruiting (as he is with all big-time JC prospects). Jurick is set to visit Mississippi St. April 8th and 9th. He also has interest from West Virginia and Central Florida, but has not scheduled visits.

Cincinnati is still in the mix for the big man. If UC only fills the one remaining scholly it will be interesting to see who gets it. Mbodji, GG, Pressley and Jurick all looking at the campus and team up close and personal. Jurick can give UC defense and rebounding. It will be interesting to see if he can operate in an up and down/pressing style of basketball. My hope is for him or God's Gift. No offense to the others.

If Jurick can come in and give 5-10 minutes of all out effort a game then he'll be just what UC needs... he won't be expected to play 20-30 minutes a game so hopefully the ability to play in the up tempo system wouldn't be quite as big a factor.

It would not surprise me to see Jurick play more than that if he can play solid defense and rebound at this level. A lot will depend on how ready Gaines is to play. Jackson has to play at the 4 spot. Gates can rotate between the 4-5. I'll tell you this. With Gates, Jurick, Gaines, Jackson and Thomas there would be some swatted shots.

It's interesting you bring the 4-5 discussion up. I wonder, depending on who UC signs in the late period, if we'll see Yancy play more 4 next season.
