Had a big weekend at the Rumble in the Bronx. He dropped 30 in one game.

Strengths:
Cavanugh is the prototypical skilled face-up four-man. He makes shots off the catch as well as the dribble, has consistent three-point range, makes mid-range pull-ups, and even knows how to create space in the mid-range area with step-backs. In addition to his skill, Cavanaugh also has a good feel for the game and intuitive understanding of when to make certain plays. Physically, he has a frame that will support more muscle mass with wide shoulders and thick legs.

Weaknesses:
Cavanough isn't especially quick or athletic, and although his frame is just beginning to fill out physically he needs to be more willing to play through contact. He struggles to finish plays around the basket, isn't as consistent of a rebounder as he should be, and doesn't yet have a position defensively since he isn't quick enough to defend the three nor strong enough to defend the four. He needs to work hard to develop his body and make the most of the physical tools he does have while showing a willingness to use them.

Bottom Line:
Cavanough has the look, feel and playing style of another former member of the Albany City Rocks in Will Regan. He is a very skilled face-up four man and only needs to get a little stronger and tougher in order to maximize his tools.

CAVANAUGH AWAITING HIGH MAJOR OFFERS

When talking about face-up four men in the Class of 2012, Tyler Cavanaugh is one of the first names that should come to mind. The 6-foot-7 power forward is a knockdown 3-point shooter with a smooth stroke and he is also a superb finisher around the basket. The Jamesville-DeWitt product near Syracuse (NY) has a great basketball IQ and rarely makes bad decisions with the rock. He is tough defensively and his motor is always running at full force. A good enough athlete, Cavanaugh can handle the ball and get to the hoop off the bounce. A great teammate who does all the little things, Cavanaugh is truly talented player. If he improves his quickness and agility, he could develop into a big-time player.

Cavanaugh said over the weekend in Orlando has offers from Fairfield, Vermont, Davidson, Canisius, Siena, Bucknell, Lehigh, Lafayette, Colgate, George Washington, and other mid-major programs. He is also hearing from Syracuse, Notre Dame, Providence, Cincinnati, Michigan, Boston College, Penn State, Clemson and Wake Forest.

Cavanaugh has no favorites, but said Davidson, Siena, George Washington and Syracuse are recruiting him the hardest.

He has visited Davidson, Colgate, Fairfield, Syracuse and Boston College. In addition, Cavanaugh’s parents visited George Washington.

He has no other trips plans and said he will “do that in August.” Cavanaugh has no timetable for a commitment.

On whether it would be tough to turn down a Syracuse offer, Cavanaugh said, “Obviously it’s gonna be something I really think about, but I gotta find the best fit.”
