I was saying if we land Hicks. No way he would come here if it were Clark, Moore, Scott, and him all at the 4. I think Scott was originally listed as a 3 on some recruiting sites. Yes, he'll play both because of his size and versatility, but I see him as a backup to Evans as of right now. I'll admit I could be totally wrong on that though. Just my opinion.

Again Moore will be back up 5, hicks will be back up 4 and Scott and brooks will see 5 or less minutes a game. Spots 2-3 will be rotated by kj, Cumberland, evans.

If kids got to play the positions they think they should be playing there would be no one left to play the post.

Ever since Durant burst on the scene every post player to enter college basketball has thought they belong on the wing.

The reality is "combo forward" is a nice way of saying you don't have the skill to be a 3 and don't have the back to the basket moves to be a traditional big.

Yeah pretty much.

BC WE ALSO HAVE PLAYING TIME TO OFFER. If a grad transfer PG turned us down for playing time reasons, yeah that makes sense. But for this specific case, it is not an issue. He will have every opportunity to get on the floor here. Why else would we be recruiting him this spring? Obviously the staff sees our frontcourt and realizes that minutes behind Clark and Washington are wide open. Hicks has just as good of a chance as anyone else to get them.

Jake everybody has a chance to get on the floor. Recruits generally go to the places that gives them the best chance. That was the original point. And again that isn't a excuse. Its a reality.

agree with your post. I will add that if JJ improves you may see TC slide over to the 2 on occasion with JJ running the point and Brooks will also back up the 5. He is not a 4.

If we bring in another big Brooks will red shirt. Moore saw 7.5 minutes per game last year even though he was 4th in line for minutes. I would think any new big that comes in will max out around what DeBerry offered us last year...around 15 minutes. Scott is going to get minutes (I would guess at least average 5 minutes on the year).

I realize in big games those minutes may not look this way but on the year I am guessing they will. I wouldn't mind seeing us use 4 perimeter guys on the floor at times too...with only Clark or Washington on the floor. However we are so thin on the wing that I don't expect much of that unless Scott can be somewhat effective from outside.

My only concern with counting on Cumberland as a frosh is if he doesn't pick up on the defensive scheme. We all know Cronin will not stand for too much of a defensive liability. I hope this is not the case...but if it is...we are incredibly thin on the wing. We need a wing big time...unless of course Scott can help a little (which I don't seem to be getting that vibe about him so far).

I would not be surprised to see two guard three bigs lineup this year

How do we know Brooks would red shirt and not Hicks

Just speculating based on the timing of each recruitment. I think Hicks was committed to Ben Howland at one point too...not sure what happened there, but that makes me believe he is more ready to contribute. The really big guys that Cronin gets usually need some time to get in shape too. And with Quadri Moore as a JR, like many have said, I could see him as Washington's primary backup.

We don't know either would redshirt for sure. However, if Cronin thought Brooks was ready to play I doubt we would be looking at another big to bring in. And I doubt Hicks would want to sit out a year when he doesn't have to.

If we don't get another wing...I would agree. This would not be optimal IMO. I would much rather run 4 guards/wings than 3 bigs.
We'll se a bunch of different groups on the floor this year. Tre Scott will be at the 4 and Clark in the post on occasion. TC could be on the floor with JJ on occasion. Moore and Clark will see time together. Without adding another wing seeing TC play off the ball on occasion is a real possibility. I hope JJ is up to the task.

The staff is looking for a wing and a big. Trouble is there isn't much out there right now.

I understand Waite...options are extremely limited right now on the wing I'm sure. Right now we have well above average production at the PG and SF positions. Our other wing options?

KJ...below average senior

Cumberland...I'm optimistic about him but still unproven frosh. Not worried about him on offense but he will have to be able to play serviceable D to be on the floor a lot.

Play 3 bigs? Not sure we have a great perimeter option there.

Play JJ and slide TC over? Hopefully Jenifer is a more reliable option this year.

I can guarantee Caupain will play no more than 2 minutes a game next year at the two spot.

I would agree with this. And I don't see a great option on our team for a perimeter playing big. That leaves us with an underwhelming senior and an unproven frosh to play along side Evans.

We need a wing

Why do people mention KJ as a wing, Cumberland I can buy that but not KJ. He doesn't attack the rim, have a pull up jumper and is undersized to guard a real wing- 6'5" or bigger.

could be because he can guard positions 1-3. Hes listed on UCs site as 6-3(which may be off by an inch) but i believe he can guard anyone on the wing pretty well. You know what they say. You are what you can guard
