Many are obviously concerned about the "makeup" of the team next year. I am well-aware that our roster is not finalized, but for conversations sake, let's discuss. Give me your starting 5, with a brief reason "why."

PG: Cash 6'1" (quick, fast, has shown ability to score)
SG: Parker 6'3"-6'4" (strong, confident shooter, rebounds great for a guard)
SF: Wilks 6'7" (uber athletic, confident shooter, "Mr.Hustle" of this team)
PF: Gates 6'9" (strong, skilled, needs to amp up the motor)
PF: Ibra 6'11" (good on the glass, improving in the post, needs to be more assertive)

G: Kilpatrick, Dixon
F: Bishop (it seems likely he will return), Jackson

Davis and Biggie are the "odd men" out.

I would also be in favor of going "smaller" and forcing the tempo.

PG: Cash
SG: Parker
SF: Kilpatrick
PF: Wilks
PF: Ibra

I'd like to see Killah coming off the bench, unless he's just too damn good not to. Easier to bring him in more than to sit him down later. I'd go with Gates starting or not, depending on his develop. I could see Wilks starting if one of the frosh can't beat him out.

I think you'll see alot of either Kilpatrick or Parker at sf if another big man isn't signed. That would mean Wilks will have to play the 4 spot some. If a big is signed you'll see either a 3rd guard or Wilkes, depending on the opponent. Bishop will start at sf if he is on the team. If he is on the team he will be a better player because of the discipline he will have to display to remain a Bearcat. When motivated Bishop is a very solid player. Jackson will see low post time. Especially if Ratliffe isn't signed.

Ultimately I'm hoping to add two more names to the discussion.

I like BA1's first starting lineup. I've been saying that Parker's future role on this team will probably be a SG. He was probably our best outside threat and you have to love his ability to rebound. Unfortunately I don't see too many baskets made by this team. We need solid improvements from Cash and Ibra. They both put themselves in great positions to score but they can't seem to convert.

If Wilks is in the starting lineup this team will be in serious trouble. The guy will be a senior and to say he has had 3 good games might be stretching it. Not only that, show me one good team that has a starting SF who can't dribble, pass, or defend the perimeter?

He is certainly a tweener.

I'm not pretending that he is all-conference.

Wilks' job is to create energy, bust his a$$, make a few open shots and crash the boards. Wilks produced at the end of the year. I think he was averaging almost 7 points and 4-5 rebounds. He also has a pretty nice shot for a guy that is 6'7".

I like BearcatAlum1's initial starting linup but would substitute Bishop for Wilks. I think an uptempo style is how they will play and would look for both to get considerable playing time. Starting lineup is one thing, but more importantly, who will be on the court at the end of a close game. My guess would be Bishop over Wilks.

He makes plays! Can't teach hustle or the shot that he posses. With more and more PT he can be a serious threat.

with more PT he makes more turnovers too. Wilks needs to be a 15 minute guy, maybe 20 max if we are really getting up and down. I like having as many ballhandlers as we can on the floor at one time.

Parker
Kilpatrick
Thomas
Gates

I agree, but I think you're describing a perfect sixth man. A guy that comes off the bench with energy and a change of pace. Not that Wilks is the perfect sixth man, but you're descrption of his role. Actually I think Wilks will make a solid bench player next year. I think Mick will substitute enough that he'll see decent minutes.

As it sits now I don't think we have five worthy starters. Assuming all stays the same, I think Cash, Parker, Bishop, Gates (by default) and Thomas. Hopefully this roster doen't stay the same. We at least have two new freshman coming in and someone will come in taking Lance's spot. Hopefully some guys are replaced as well.

when Wilks goes into the game, the other coaches right away attack him. His defense is borderline horrendous. Sure, if he can find a way to give 10 minutes a game and score more points than he'd give up than I'd be ecstatic, but I'm not sure it can happen with him. Would love to be wrong.

Early in the season, I heard he couldn't drive to the basket or rebound. I saw him do both. If Thomas can become a viable inside threat (which he's getting there), then certainly Wilks can step up his game to threaten serious minutes. Hell, if Bishop doesn't come back, I'd start him as well. Starting him over a younger talent is better, IMO. You can always give more minutes to the sub, if necessary.
