I think our perimeter defense needs a little work, but I don't think it is a concern moving forward. We didn't have much time to prepare for GW, and I think it was just one of those games. Last year the only games I can think of off the top of my head where we struggled defending the 3 were SDSU (they missed the open ones), VCU, and Xavier. The drop off from our 1st to 2nd unit was more evident this weekend. But I think those guys will continue to improve.

The key to me is that TC took 25 shots in those 2 games. No need to talk about him moving off the ball more, if he aggressively looking for shots from the point. This is what we've all wanted him to do here.

Jacob, are you now declaring this as Troy's team? Ellis' team? or Tobler's team? Based on the fan's response, I would have to agree with NTS. He was declared the player of the game a week or so ago by Dan and Chuck.

I don't play that game of "Who's team is it?". It's Mick's team. He let's his players play. I'm glad our guys have full faith in one another. And if that confidence cones from the leaders of the team, who have experience and understand the importance of culture, that's the best thing you can ask for in a college program.

Good answer! ;)

It's been pretty apparent in our 3 closest games how important TC is. Big time players play well in big time games. He's done that. Hopefully this will free up Cobb a little bit.

Cobbs playing time, and performance, was somewhat puzzling this weekend.

My take on it was that he was being focused on defensively so why not try a little bit more of KJ who won't draw as much attention on offense and at the same time will play better D.

Cobb just wasn't playing well. It seemed to be in his head a little and he was making mistakes on defense too that were unlike him.

He needs to work on his shot selection some, lots of shots just inside the 3 point arc off the bounce aren't good for anybody.

Winners and Losers in the minutes per game for blowouts vs closer games.

Moore and Jenifer getting cut in half. Those 6 or 7 minutes going to Clark and Caupain for the most part.

KJ, ST, FC, JE, getting roughly 20 minutes in either scenario give or take a minute or two. Ellis getting a few more and Deberry a few less.

One thing I have noticed is that Ellis has taken himself out a few times because he's been winded. Clark on the other hand doesn't seem to tire as easily. Clark is getting about 5 more minutes in tight games because of this.

To make it easy this is about how I see minutes in close games going forward.

Caupain...32.5
Clark...30
Ellis...27.5
Cobb...22.5
Thomas...20
Evans...20
KJ...20
Deberry...15
Jenifer...7.5
Moore...5

Just having 3 guys off the bench who are playing double digit minutes and another guy who is close to it, is going to continue to be huge for us. We need to utilize the bench a lot against butler and just wear them down as they just can't go as deep as we do and still be competitive

Clark was big time winded against GW. He fought through it though. Every time there was a break in action in the 2nd half I noticed him bent over, hands on knees. Will be good for him in the long run.

Speaking of stats...
We now have 136 AST/95 TO on the year...for AST/TO of 1.43. Not bad overall but it has been just 38 AST/36 TO last 3 games...for 1.06.

Careless turnovers just like last year is what is killing this team. Most of the time they aren't even being pressured.

"Killing this team" we lost 1 game vs a good team at the buzzer I agree that's a huge reason why we lost that game. But the term killing this team is the sound of a team that's 3-4 not 7-1.

Exactly. I think this team still has lots to improve on taking care of the ball even if they are already much better than last year.

That said, I really can't give any defense we faced much credit on UC TO's as most have been just unforced. I feel that its very much correctible though.

I still have high hopes for this season

Absolutely. Nothing I have seen makes me think we can't play with anyone in the country.

I was talking to some Butler fans after the game and they were just raving about us. They said, "You guys have a hell of a team. You have size and shooters, and defense....everything. We were totally impressed." Now, I know they might have been just saying that to be able to get out safely amongst our angry fanbase, but I believe it was sincere.

Easy to say when their team won. I had two douche bag Butler fans in front on me. They looked and acted like they were straight from Xavier.
