2017 General Recruiting

I don't have the info that you do. So if you say 12 is the magic number, I'll work with that from here on out.

If Stansbury was a target to offer immediate help, how come the year sitting out was a deal breaker?

They want to add someone to help this year. He couldn't. Cumberland and Evans are better, so tying up a scholarship for 3 years for a bench guy wasn't what they were looking for. Michigan got a look at him and passed as well. I think he has a chance to be a solid college player from what I saw, but the unknown part of his eligibility status was too much to overlook...

Good to know. Thanks.

I agree with Chad and have been saying all along you don't tie up a scholarship for 3 years just to fill a roster spot with a body. Having a full roster isn't a good thing if you have 3 guys taking up spots and won't ever really contribute. Now with 4 scholarships for 2017 and the guys we are in on, it has a chance to be his best class easily. Time will only tell if Mick can start and FINISH strong.

I'd love to get 2 main HS targets this summer/fall, so we can be picky next spring and only have to bring in 1 player.

Starts with Trevor Moore.

His Twitter said we just offered him. He is a 6'6 shooting guard from ATL. Yes please. Kinda cool Jaelen Greene, a UC rb commit for '17 tweeted him telling him to commit now. (To UC)

He was actually offered back in September...the football commit just yesterday quote-tweeted him, though.

Looks like we also offered Brian Thomas, a 6'8" PF for 2017. Elias Harden retweeted him too, so there must be some sort of tie there. Here's to hoping they become Bearcats.

All these players seem very underwhelming. Most are WAY off the radar of all the recruiting sites. Who is the best guy we're after?

I would say Harden is pretty good. He's a 4 star. The other I can agree.

I tweeted something about people coming to Cincinnati because they have a chip on their shoulder and Trevor Moore liked it and retweeted it.

Looks like that Harden guy has UA schools on his list. And he'd be playing in a new arena here. Shouldn't be that unthinkable that we could land a borderline Top 100 player.

I expect a Top 100 player every year. A Top 50 or multiple Top 100s is just icing. I can deal with none if we get quite a few in the 3/4 star range. Not that it's all about ratings, but it does alarm me a little that I've really only seen us after a couple 4-star guys for 2017, considering how early it is. Really hope most haven't just discarded UC already. Worries me a little.

Saying most of these guys are off the radar isn't accurate really. O'Connell, Harden and Greene are all definitely top 100-150 guys and Moore will play his way into that.

Who is Greene? I guess we should wait to see who visits, or where we stack up when some of these guys narrow their lists. But unless we land half the 4* caliber guys we are after, it doesn't look that encouraging to me.

JP Moorman maybe. Other than that..............................

Is it too early for me to be concerned? The 2015 class was ranked #58. 2016 is #62...you figure that gets a bump bc of Washington. 2017 will obviously have Broome...is he good enough to be considered a headliner? I'm not seeing any other names that move the needle.

EVERY SINGLE TEAM on the planet should be concerned. Its Already June 27th in 2016 and only a few teams have signed a player for the 17-18 season. OMG OMG OMG Panic panic panic.

Kentucky and kansas and Duke should be shitting there pants too. There upcoming class for 2017 looks so weak and empty.

man, with so few commits for 2017-18, i wonder if we can even play college basketball anymore. Just so much to be scared about.

Man Jacob, you told me I worry to much when we played @tulane. Now you seemingly getting worried about a recruiting period that literally just started and very few players have committed let alone narrowed it down to 5 schools.

Im sure we will be ok. And no reason not to panic until were not ok

Just doesn't seem like we're in the running for any of the Top talent. I know we'll get players, just hoping the class isn't all diamond in the rough/Junior College players. I expect a solid 4* or a couple borderline Top 100 caiiber players in every class. Just not sure how long you can go without a Top 50 recruiting class and maintain a high level program.

The difference for the KU, Duke, etc is that they haven't been eliminated from the list on all the 5* players. We obviously don't have the same luxury.

*For someone who was so worried about a Tulane game (I don't even remember that) you are pretty relaxed about recruiting :).
