2018 General Recruiting

I found this on rivals

It is a crucial recruiting year for Mick Cronin’s program as it will see practically its entire frontcourt graduate, and could also suffer the early departure of Jacob Evans to the NBA if he has his breakthrough season many are expecting.

Where does Cincinnati head next? Finding capable big men that can fill in the enormous shoes left behind is crucial. The Bearcats remain involved for Darius Days, a 6-foot-8, hard-playing forward, in the mold of current UC star Gary Clark. Along with Days, the Bearcats are pursuing Nate Roberts, Immanuel Bates, Vincent Lee, and Kiyon Boyd in the frontcourt.

While landing a big or two is important, so is nailing down a guard commitment. They remain heavily invested in the recruitment of Team Melo product Brendan Adams, along with his teammate on the Nike-sponsored team, Wynston Tabbs. Along with the duo, Cincinnati has continued to pursue some of the best throughout the Mid-Atlantic as it is involved with Eric Ayala, Rasir Bolton, Nate Hinton and Jaelen Llewellyn.

Great news IMO! There hasn't been much news on bigs this recruiting cycle. I am glad to hear it's a priority. I think we have a good nucleus right now but we sure could use a star player and there will be playing time available to lure someone in.

With Day 2 in the books and still no chatter on Bearcattalk is it fair to say everyone has moved on from this website and joined Bearcat Journal?

What u wanna talk about? I follow recruiting just by what is posted on here and Twitter, so I don't know what's all going on but I'll listen

I just figured we would talk about what we heard. I know I listed to Chad's podcast yesterday from two days ago. Looks like Lebanc is someone we don't need. Not very polished on offense. Of course we would love Darius Days just kind of a long shot.

Darius did tweet last night that Florida has stopped recruiting him which I thought was strange and I asked him what about Cincinnati and he said its all love.

This is probably the area we can SELL the most immediate playing time to a high profile HS guy next season. Even a one and doner would work here and maybe would be the perfect fit. We will have 4 bigs that can play D and rebound but none that are considered no brainer scoring bigs as of now. I like Brooks and Diarra to emerge from this current bunch after Washington and Clark leave.

We can't point to our wing positions and sell playing time as easy. We still have to see our PG play but we may be in the same boat at PG. There is also depth here with Williams, Jenifer and Moore.

What I like most about our situation at big is that we have program guys locked in for depth. One nice recruit could really make that situation perfect.
Do we know why Mick doesn't like the grad transfers? Outside of the obvious thing that it may disrupt team chemistry. At times it seemed like it could work. You pick your spots.

Mick is very big on rewarding guys that have been in the program and put in the work to be in a position to contribute. He has said before that unless it is a no-brainer, last piece to a potential championship caliber team, and a position that is not very deep, he isn't interested in a grad transfer. Those are very rare so I guess that means you shouldn't expect to see a grad transfer anytime soon.

It's summer and there isn't much happening so there isn't much to talk about. I'd rather be outside doing yard work on a nice day than spending all my time on any website or twitter.

Well this month is one of the biggest for recruiting and evaluating? Also when you sit in a cube all day this blog really helps

I'm with you man. The more recruiting news and hoops banter the better.

And Jason I agree with you, too. just got done with yardwork. Really enjoyed the weather today.

A lot of really good looking PGs on our radar. Looking like all basically 4 stars. Hard to decide which one I would rather see us get.

As far PF/C of course Darius Days would be the top of my list, but will be tough obviously to pull off. Besides him I feel like there's no one really that are catching our eyes?

In my opinion:

Bearcat Journal forums and news is much more active in the season and in the major recruiting season. If your a bearcat junkie like I am, then its worth the price of admission just for the off season, as even when news is slow, their is still daily activity on the message boards

However in season, Bearcat talk is much more active. So i kinda swing between the 2 of them. I generally never post on Bearcat Journal during the season and instead stay on Bearcat Talk but do the opposite in the offseason.

Also, if you just love college basketball in general, I visit Reddit.com/r/collegebasketball on the daily

and the AAC forums over on http://csnbbs.com/forum-409.html are pretty active. Though its more AAC focus and shifts between football and basketball.

Plus Podcast are a great way to make College basketball all year round.
My favorites are:
The Skinny Podcast basketball edition (year round, less frequent in off season)
CBS Sports EYE on College basketball (year round, less frequent in off season)
College basketball Talk on NBA (year round, less frequent in off season)
College Hoops today with Jon Rothstein (Year round, consistently on Monday's)
the Fundamentally sound podcast (Weekly, Basketball focus, lots shitty rambling)
Lets Talk Bearcats basketball
Marching to Madness
Ringer University
Screen the Screen Podcast
Stories with Stein
Three-Man-Weave: College Basketball Podcast

Darius Days killed it this weekend. Even though we were one of the first to show interest it will definitely be hard to stay in the running. He's big time.

I agree with the PG's. We are looking at some quality guys. Will be fun to see how it progresses.

Yea I think we have zero percent chance of landing days. It’s unfortunate but it is what it is
