This...Exactly this. With Mick we played 1 MAYBE 2 tough non-conference games(not including xavier because they are always on the schedule). Noone, not even fans, really wanted to watch those games. So there is a 0% chance anyone other than fans are watching those games. Especially not any recruit(not commitments, but just 7th,8th,9th,10th,11th grade basketball players).

When you schedule big, you get put on the national stage. Your games become something ESPN wants to air. And then its something people want to watch. And then recruits want to watch. Its how you build the brand that we lost over the years.

This also shows recruits that you dont have to play in the SEC to play a tough schedule. Im so glad we are in the Brannen area now.

Also, im hearing the last spot on the schedule is going to an SEC team. going by the connections Brannen has Id say Bama?, but maybe he and his staff have connections with Crean or Martin.
Yep, that’s always been my argument. We could be a major program if we want to be. We could be Gonzaga. We were Gonzaga before Gonzaga. We need to act like one though. Play on national stages. Not some tournament with a bunch of mid majors to see if we can get a bunch of meaningless wins. Embrace our alumni. This program could be much more. Of course we also have to win. That’s also part of it.

Mick won a ton of games after rebuilding the program from nothing. That’s awesome. I just always felt like we could be a much bigger program but he never wanted to embrace it.

Is the AAC/SEC thing still a thing or was that just last year? I assumed we would be in that since we weren’t in it last year but I don’t know if that’s still a thing. It’d be a low level sec team but I’d take it.

Tari Eason finishes ranked 54th in the rivals top 150. Congrats young man.

Seems like quite a bit of difference here between ranking sites but this is a good sign that someone sees his most recent play as a reason to move him up. It would be awesome if he can play 15+ minutes...anything more than that would mean he is going to be really good. I would suspect something in the range of 10-15 but who knows.

Two more high major neutral games to boost our future schedule and a homecoming of sorts for Zach Harvey.

I'm happy the excitement is back. I like that we're turning into an anybody, anywhere, anytime sort of program.

Reminds me of the Big East days... losses never even bothered me because we had a big game 4 days later anyway. You remember the big wins..I love having 10 chances at big wins a year vs 4.

Exactly, the biggest games in the history of our program aren’t against Texas southern. Those games are pointless. No one cares if you win 28 games and get a 7 seed. Give more 4-5 more chances a year to make a memory

Agree. This is also why I never bragged or made a big deal about Mick winning 60 games in two years. Cant just brag about wins when 50 of them were against mediocre to subpar teams

None of those teams are actually good though

You guys are acting as if he is scheduling duke or Virginia or UK, we’ve got games with pretty much bottom dwellers of big conference, besides a couple. Calm down fellas.

Louisville is a huge add to the schedule. AND its a home/home.

Richmond is border line preseason ranked...texas tech is pre ranked 7 by NBC, Tennessee 10. Xavier is always a guarantee and St Johns/Arizona are not bottom of their conference.

thats what tier 1 games look like compared to what we used to play

You're pretty off base with that take.

Illinois and Arkansas were both ranked 8-12 spots higher than us last season in the final NET ranking and are both considered programs on the rise in their respective conferences that are definitively high major.

Kansas State was bad last season but they're also one season removed from a 4 seed - while also playing in one of college basketball's best conferences, so it's not like they're that far removed from national prominence.

This is the best type of neutral site arrangement we could ask for other than something like the Maui Invitational, which we're playing in the following season.

Duke and UK don't do home and homes. Like most blue bloods. They do neutral courts with the same 5 teams every year. Got Louisville, A top 25ish Richmond team, Arizona and/or Texas Tech on a neutral. Probably a top 10 non conference schedule in the whole country. But you're right, not that good.

Are you retarded? Illinois finished in the top 25 to end the season playing in the best conference in the country. Who knows how far they could have gone in tourney. Brad Underwood is recruiting his ass off and lot's of momentum with a top 15 recruiting class coming in. K-State has a top 20 recruiting class coming in and proven coach in Bruce Weber, they're always scrappy. Arkansas is on the rise with Eric Musselman at the helm now and a top 10 recruiting class coming in. You know the guy who made your little hero look like an inept fool? We might be the least talented team on paper of the 4 teams in another years time. GTFOH

Those teams are all good enough to make you want to be sure to check out the game. A lot of the tournaments we had been playing, that hasn't always been the case.

I think these will ensure we have more tier 1 and tier 2 games on the schedule, which is going to help everything...recruiting, making the team better, earning a better resume.

our own fans couldn't watch our tournament games before for the most part (without dropping a stupid amount of money for a subscription that barely worked anyway) and now everybody will have an opportunity to watch.

This is building a brand.

I dont know who shit in your coffee, but you clearly miss everything with this post. Everyone is acted accordingly. We are now playing Tier 1 games instead of tier 4 games. Win or lose tier 3/4 games do absolutely nothing to help you
