After taking a second look at Jenifer vs Caupain this year in the assist to turnover category...it's a little worse than I originally thought for Jenifer.

On the year Jenifer is 13:7 which is not horrible and Caupain is 20:5 which is awesome. However if you take from each their best game (which was the same game) they each had 9 assists.

in the other three games Jenifer is 4:6 and Caupain is 11:4. That is .66:1 vs 2.75:1.

Although Jenifer has been great in shooting and scoring...as a PG .66:1 assist to turnover ratio is not going to get it done. I think he will get better in that category because he will have to if he wants to get good playing time.

On the other hand Jacob Evans has yet to turn the ball over which is why in close games my players are Ellis, Clark, Evans, Cobb, Caupain. The only difference is Thomas will start and Evans will finish.

Saying its Troys team in a completely unselfish kind of way. He's taking a back seat to get everyone involved, his +/- has got to be outrageous. When he's in the game they're better. Everyone's been great ao far this year, but when games are close he'll be on the court

You really have no idea if Troy is taking a back seat or not.....or......if he is just playing worse. That would be like me saying that Jenifer's turnovers are higher because he is taking more chances to get more people involved. If he was making more shots he wouldn't appear to be taking a back seat. If Jenifer was passing to the first unit, his assists would probably be a lot greater and his turnovers less. Both players are doing fine, but the bottom line is that Jenifer will not be fading into some insignificant role as some predicted. That is simply because Caupain is not effective enough and consistent enough to push him to the background and Jenifer has too many skills to be pushed there. Also, if he keeps making shots and free throws, his playing time will continue to grow, not decrease. I am a Troy fan, but not a huge fan of him as a point guard. I realize though that he's definitely not pushing Farad to the bench and taking the two spot. The great news is that we've gone from zero options at the point to multiple "effective" and "different" options.

The other problem with the "taking the back seat" unselfish theory is that I do believe Cronin was looking for Troy to score more and shoot the ball more this year. We have not needed that yet...but it's not a great sign so far that he's accepted the challenge. Now would be a perfect time to test the waters.
