I wish I could agree but uc/Cincinnati sport fans are as fairweather fans as they come. Always find some excuse not to show up. Read half the comments just on this blog and its no wonder our attendance sucks.

Winning will put fans in the seats. Playing the style of ball these guys are playing right now and winning will put a buzz back in the arena.

It's simple. Win and win consistently against good teams and people will come. Call it fair-weather or call it whatever you want. Just win and you'll sell tickets.

I wish it was that simple. For most it is, but not all. Some will always find a reason to not show up.

There are some people that are just miserable people who will complain about any and everything because they have nothing better to do. We packed the house when Huggs was here and we did it playing in C-USA.

I've been as or more critical of Mick Cronin than anyone who posts here but I still go to all the games. Tomorrow nights game will be the first game I've missed all season.

People in Cincinnati are very distrustful of their sports teams and they have every reason to be. The Reds weren't very good for a very long time and attendance was weak. The second half of their playoff season people started coming out because the team was winning and people actually believed they could compete for something special.

The Bengals have been the Bengals. One of the worst run franchises in sports. Enough said.

Bearcat Basketball for a long time was the only thing going in this city. Now you have the decline of our program after Huggins left combined with the surge of our Football team and we are where we are with the current state of attendance. It's not because of parking or the arena or this or that. Sure, those issues may be relevant to a handful of the casual fan base but the overwhelming majority don't show up because they don't believe this team is a winner.

While I agree with your statement about Cincinnati sports being failures. But in reality its just one big lame a$$ excuse for the lack of support uc fans give.

Tell me one other place where a team isn't a success yet the fan base still sells out all the games? Look at any fan base that is viewed as being a "great fan base". They are all tied to successfull teams.

Watching bad teams is not enjoyable to sports fans, it's understandable. I've forced myself for 5 years to go watch the crap we displayed on the hardwood only because I'm a diehard fan. I get it that the casual fan doesn't want to pay to watch it.

People came when we were good, people will come again if we get good again. People came to football in droves when BK was here, that dropped off a bit after CBJ's first couple of seasons but the support is still 1000% better than it was 10 years ago.

I am not speaking for myself here. To most, sports is entertainment. If you are going to spend your hard earned money, you expect to be pleased. Most of Mick's tenure here he has put a less than entertaining product on the court. For the most part, his teams have been boring and some could argue, stressful to watch.

As I stated before the season this was a huge year to get the buzz back in the city. With this new style of play, this could become reality. Fans want to see dunks, fast breaks, steals, 3's, and intensity.

IU. still packed the place, averaged over 7K students a game the past three years despite having a losing record.

Yeah, and the Cubs still pack Wrigley. I was saying it more as a figure of speech. Those places are the exception not the rule. I guess you got me though, I did say name one place and you named IU.

*I'll never give students a free pass for not going to games. It makes no sense to me why students don't show up. Win or lose the tickets are free, get your azzes to the games.
**You also can't make a fair comparison between UC and IU. We are in a big city with a lot of other things to attract people's attention. IU is in Bloomington, all those people have is basketball.

This may be the only time I ever agree with uc bearcats.

Our fan base and the cincy fan base in general has been pathetic. Bengals, reds and bearcats

I find the argument regarding Cincinnati fans as "fair weather" very tiring. Being a transplant from the west, I can say that fans here are extremely loyal to their teams. A great example is the Bengals who have raked their fans for millions while fielding pathetic teams for years. Yet the choir still shows up for Sunday service. The Reds consistently bring in their 2 mil fans every season, despite their performance. X always has a full house for games that would be called "snoozers" by most. The problem lies in the program in Clifton and not the fans. Want answers or the truth? As my man Jack once said, "you can't handle the truth". Cronin does not market himself in this city. Most in this city, outside of the small die hards in these types of forums do not like him. In the past, most usually were neutral towards sports coaches and the never would really effect attendance. A popular coach? Well we saw what that can do for attendance a decade ago. Want reasons why he is so disliked? I think everyone knows but refuses to acknowledge it. My wife goes because she is a huge fan. But even she admits the games are boring and sometimes has to force herself to go.

Agreed!

I'm not talking about selling out games. We can't even get 500 students to the game. We can't even get 7k to games. That's pathetic. But yet I guarantee most of those "fans" watch the game on TV. I guess I didn't realize how cheap ppl are in cincy if 10 dollar tickets are the issue. If there was a decent crowd at the games it doesn't matter if the play on the court isn't up to your high basketball standards. Please get over you're selves and enjoy and cheer for your team if you're a real UC fan.

Very good point here. Up until recently, I had seen better offenses run in high school games. Thanks for pointing that out

Maybe that's a good thing you all don't come to the games. Because you would be the people who sit there and complain and everything under the sun. Its a lot better time with out the pretentious ppl there. Honestly if you all could do better, why are you on this forum and why aren't You coaching division I basketball? Since you all know you can coach better and have all the answers you are hurting UC by only talking about it on here. Go make it happen...lol

I'd venture to say, we all do have the answers. Many of us were calling for an up tempo offense since day 1 and well, look whats happened!

Perhaps Mick should split his salary with some members of this board.

Wow, sounds like someone needs to RELAX. I don't even know who "you people" are supposed to be but I've got season tix bro, go to all the games.

The offense was running fairly well at the end of last year, I just don't think these kids are smart enough to run such a rigid system. Guess you gotta go with what you have. Of course, you had a system that gave you more success than in years past, I can't really knock the man for keeping it.
I can knock him for not believing in his players offensive ability and his own coaching style.

But meh... Being bitter never got me anything in life.

As for the fans, yes, they suck. They're apathetic douche bags for the most part, but their money still spends the same. Hopefully they'll come back.
