Help Support BearcatTalk:

There are so many reasons why attendance struggles we could debate for hours, but to me a large part is this city's obsession with who the coach is. I get it that we haven't won with Cronin as we had won with Huggins. And we don't need to open up that debate. But were you (in general not a specific person) a fan of the Bearcats or a fan of Huggins? I know several "die-hard" Bearcat fans who immediately stop supporting the program when Huggins was fired and who refuse to rejoin support because Cronin is not a big named coach. One even as of two days ago I got into a heated debate with because he was mad we didn't hire Rick Majerus. Sorrry but when I heard that I had get on him. He is now a Xavier fan by the way. Also still hear tthe Andy Kennedy argument from someone at least once a month. These people clearly haven't been following his tenure at Ole Miss. Fans are entitled to their opinions and yeah it was hard to be thrust into a rebuilding period that no one wanted or was ready for, but support the program. I do agree with the earlier poster that said Mick hasn't done enough to sell the program, but I honestly hate that he has to sell the program to a city that not too long ago couldn't get enough Bearcat basketball.

Fans forget fairly easy.

However Mick has not given the fans of Bearcat bball that opportunity. There is zero buzz around this program. Mick's comments are, we play with what we have, were not a good offensive team, this guy isnt ready, .... just full of excuses. Scoring 54 against Presb and blaming the defense is not a way to get butts in the seats. Give this city something to get excited about and they will come.

It is starting to turn around and we can only hope it keeps up. You will notice a difference in attendance

In all honesty, the on ball defense is better.

I can agree with most of what you're saying, but fans haven't forgotten or moved on from the Huggins era. Bottom line is winning is what brings people out. Until we win like Huggins won, the city won't move on. We won last year and people finally starting getting behind the team again. We struggled this year and you would think we're back in year one with Cronin in some peoples eyes. Most of us understand the difficulties of what it took to rebuild this program. We could argue whether it should've taken two years, three years or five years, but we all agree that once we got back to the tournament we want to continue that level of success. We have struggled this year and Mick has to take some blame for that, but the year isn't over, he saw the need to adjust and did so. We haven't openend up Big East play yet so there's plenty of time to get some good wins under our belts.

The offense was running fairly well at the end of last year, I just don't think these kids are smart enough to run such a rigid system. Guess you gotta go with what you have. Of course, you had a system that gave you more success than in years past, I can't really knock the man for keeping it.
I can knock him for not believing in his players offensive ability and his own coaching style.

But meh... Being bitter never got me anything in life.

As for the fans, yes, they suck. They're apathetic douche bags for the most part, but their money still spends the same. Hopefully they'll come back.

Amen my man! A lot of "UC" fans suck. A bunch of hypocrites. Stay home, we'll enjoy the games without you. Not just bball, its football too.

Sounds like Cronin's view also. And guess what? They ARE staying home and the program continues to keep getting more and more in the red. Nice philosophy to build bridges with lol.

He can only do so much. No one who goes to the game is really there in support of the coach anyway.
The go to support the team and the university, that's what makes them fans. Not whiney brats. Reminds me of Bengals fans.
Undeserving. They'll be here though, come Big East play, you'll see people show up because of who we're playing. It'll help, if we win out through the suspensions. We beat Pittsburgh, the home games that follow are very winnable.

I understand that a lot of people were very ticked off when Huggins left, some even went as far as to stop supporting the University and still don't support it to this day. I still think that those people would come back if we started to win. I'm not talking about going to the tourney once every three years. I'm talking about getting back into the top 15 on a consistant basis, not questioning if you'll make the tourney but if you'll be a 2 seed or a 3 seed. That's the kind of winning that a lot of UC fans were used to.

Mick can win those fans back if he starts to win here. If he doesn't win then hopefully he gets fired and the next coach comes in with a little more energy and a lot more wins.

The ONLY thing that will bring fans back is winning. I don't even get why this is an argument or debate. This team doesn't win so a lot of fans have lost interest. If they start winning again people will come back.

You can build a huge parking lot right next to The Shoe, you can tear the Shoe down and build a brand new arena, you can market the hell out of the program on TV and radio and offer ticket promos and it won't make a big difference.......if you don't win people aren't going to come.

Ill field this one seeing how it was hit at me I would assume. The old, tired argument of why he is disliked here in Cincinnati rest on one thing. His departure to our rival Louisville, taking 2 of our recruits with him (Garcia, Dean). We all can argue til we are blue in the face as to whether or not this was an acceptable thing to do and I really do not care one way or the other. But fans here in Cincinnati are very loyal and they expect their sports figures to be the same. Had Cronin took off to Ohio St or Kansas, nothing would have been said and people here would have welcomed him back. Louisville was too much to swallow.

ya i agree it does get old im the choir when it comes to that. theres still people who wont go because of huggs talk about ridiculous. but i have to disagree if we keep scoring like this people will come and people that come will more importantly come back no doubt about it

who knows tho people still dont show up to protest zimpher who isnt even at uc anymore does anyone not see the stupidity of that

Ok, I am going to really try this one last time. The fan base who is staying away does NOT like Cronin. Nothing to do with Zimpher. She is old news. And I do not see the stupidity in that at all. I have long disliked Xavier and that hatred started with Gillen.

cronin is going to make alot those people look pretty dumb. and trust me you and got to explain that point people been sayin that since day he was hired there the same people that downplay a win and over blow a lose. they would rather cronin fail than succeed in order to be right.

And why is it that they want him to fail? Scroll for answer.

and regardless if your right or wrong if this keeps up and we do better in BE play than last year people will come and if we start winning yearly season tickets will return the program will be back some say it already is.

If anyone thinks this program is back to where it was, then they are either delusion or named Ralph/mick. And beating up on pathetic teams is not going to sell tickets.

thats not what i meant and the problem is not that people hate cronin its that everyone is comparing him to huggs. if your gonna compare it to huggs best years no were not back to that but we never will be its over its in the past things happened if we keep comparing everything to the past we might well just get hockey team instead. but to act like were not on verge havin a very succesfull program is delusional as well

and not to mention no one is arguing the fact people hate cronin even if i worded it that way. people have many reasons cronin fact we had rebuild and sucked for likr 4 years theres many reasons u could even use economy excuse i simply said this type of play will put butts in seat thats honestly a given tho wouldn u agree

The current state of the program is not on the verge of being very successful. Sorry. Do not see it.
