Bearcats win!

Good win yesterday. The Big East is clearly ours to win or lose. We control our fate, everyone else gets to watch and hope we slip up. We have a buffer zone too, with all but Louisville having at least two losses and we have the tie-breaker over them.

I was glad to see the defense turn things around in the second half yesterday. I was saying to a friend while watching the game that maybe Sunseri got his bell rung on one of those many hits he took in the first half and would come out looking clueless for the second half. Looks like I might have been right. It's good to have that gigantic oversized trophy back in Cincinnati.

Great win last night! Pitt def. did not deserve to make that final field goal, they were getting enough help from the stripes already. The defensive front, especially in the 2nd half was so much fun to watch. They were getting after it! Did anyone else see Pead doing snow angels on the field after the game?! Thought it was hilarious!

I just want to weigh in on my thoughts from last night's game.

1. This team and coaching staff seem to do a great job making adjustments at halftime. Three straight games the Bearcats have come back from deficits of 9, 10 and 10 points respectively in the second half.

2. It was nice to see a close game come down to the defense making a stop and getting the job done. This team has confidence in either unit being on the field late in games.

3. The defense was great in the second half. They made Sunseri uncomfortable in the pocket and the secondary did a nice job of taking away his first option. When he had to look for a 2nd or 3rd option, he got happy feet and tried to run. It was 1st option or nothing.

4. The offense was balanced and stepped up in the second half. They moved the ball well in the first half early but then found a way to shoot themselves in the foot. The second half they were able to finish drives.

5. Tony Miliano was AWESOME! That stadium is really tough to kick in and he was terrific. UC special teams in general was very good and is becoming a strength of this team.

UC is in great shape to make it 3 out of 4 Big East Titles. If UC wins this weekend it all but assures them of the championship. They would have at least a 2 game lead with 3 to go.

ESPN has it in for the Bearcats/Big East. Craig James voted UC #22, Chris Fowler did not have UC in top 25.

ESPN wants the Big East to fail and will continue to try to degrade anything Big East when it comes to football. It is a direct reflection on the fact the Big East turned down the ESPN $1 Billion + offer. Can you imagine what would be said today if a Big East team was #1 or #2 in the country and missed 4 FGs in one game to lose? They sure wouldn't be preaching that they were STILL one of the two best teams in America and worthy of a rematch.

ESPN is probably real upset that the Big East is adding Houston and Boise State and all of their AQ points. In the end, next fall when the Big East TV contract comes up, ESPN will probably out bid NBC Sports for Big East TV rights, probably will cost ESPN $2 billion.

I'm not going to disagree with you but I also think that we aren't getting much respect on a national front because no one in our league has done anything of great accomplishment this season. We got WAXED by Tennessee and that really hurt our credibility on the national level. Had we won that game, or at least put in a better effort, we would probably be getting a much higher level of respect at this point.

Bingo. The 1st place (and undefeated) Big East team got smoked by an 0-5 SEC squad. its hard to demand respect for both the Big East and UC right now.

It does hurt. However, it must be noted that Tennessee lost a ton of their playmakers after that game. They lost star WR, star QB, a couple of starters on D.

Everyone is all over LSU but WVU put up over 500 yards on them and if they didnt have a couple of pethetic special teams plays they could have won that game.

I wasn't trying to say UC should be top 10 or anything like that. My point was strictly that ESPN is more biased than I can ever remember and in order to keep the price down, ESPN is going to continue to bash everything Big East. If UC can win the conference and then beat down an ACC team in the bowl game, that would be huge for the entire conference.

Just wait for ESPN to continue to slam the Big East Basketball League this year because they are "losing too many good teams to be a good league."

I think something that can be said to points 1-4 is this team's endurance. Butch said when he came in that he wanted to be the hardest working team and have the best endurance to play at full strength for four quarters. Kelly's teams looked like they got ragged towards the end of games (at least on defense). Jones has brought in a much better work effort to this team and it is showing. I'm not saying all of this can be attributed to better endurance, but I think it plays a big factor. Pitt looked tired in the second half, we didn't. With that said I agree that the coaching staff has made good adjustments in the second half of games. Good point, too, about Miliano. He has been solid all year and Heinz Field absolutely sucks for kickers.

Disagree.

Its soley because they have not performed well against the top dogs as others have said. ESPN says the same thing about the Big Ten schools who get their butts kicked by the SEC.

Plus if ESPN really wants the Big East in the future, they'd have it locked up. Both sides are waiting to see who the conference adds

The Big East rejected ESPN's $1.4 billion 9 year TV deal in July hoping to get get ESPN, NBC Sports, and Fox in a bidding war for Big East TV rights next fall. ESPN has responded by attempting to destroy the Big East. The President of Boston College stated (he later tried a miserable attempt at retracting) that ESPN told the ACC to add Pitt and Syracuse and paid each ACC an additional $5 million to do so. It came out last week that the Big 12 added WVU instead of Louisville because ESPN and Fox told them to do so.

Disagree. ESPN is a business. In business, you want to get the best deal for your side. If you can de-value a product before buying it, you will be better off. It is no different than buying a house. You vocalize all of the things wrong with the house and none of the stuff you like. You then put in an offer to low ball the seller and hope that they settle closer to your number than theirs. ESPN is doing this with the Big East. They do not want to lose Big East Basketball but they also saw where the money was heading and didn't want to pay the going rate if they could avoid it. It is cheaper to increase the payout by $5 Million per school in the ACC to take Pitt and Syracuse than to have to fork over $2 Billion plus to the Big East.

ESPN has the same situation with the Big 10. They used to own the exclusive TV rights to the conference. That is when the Big 10 was the greatest thing since sliced bread. Now that the Big 10 has created their own network and started moving marquee matchups to that network, ESPN is more critical of the conference and their teams. You didn't see ESPN sending everyone and their brother to Auburn to investigate the cheating with Cam Newton that we all know went on there but they did send reporters, several times, to Columbus to dig stuff up and hammer Ohio State. Frankly, I hate OSU so I was happy to see it but you can't ignore the double standard set by ESPN.

Name 1...

The Big 10 Network has not featured two top 25 teams vs one another yet this year. ESPN/ABC still takes the marquee matchups in the Big Ten.

Also I get what you're saying in the first paragraph, but isnt there a clause in tv contracts stating that if a team leaves the conference during a deal, fees may be assessed to the deal, decreasing the overall dollar amount to each school?
If so, the Big East has its hands tied right now. and can't reach a deal with the instability of the league

Bibliography for this work?

I know for a fact that the Big 10 network put several OSU games (I believe the Wisconsin game a few years back) on the Big 10 network to force Time Warner Cable and others to succumb to their terms and pick up the network. I remember hearing people here in Columbus complaining about it.

As for two top 25 teams, there haven't been a lot of those games in the Big 10 in recent years (at least between the marquee programs). Michigan has been down. Wisconsin and Ohio State really were the only two consistently ranked in the conference. The Big 10 is pretty bad so there aren't many of those games. Yes, ABC and ESPN still have rights and still get big games. If you pay attention you should notice that more and more games are being televised by the Big 10 Network. In fact, at least on DirecTV, there is a BTN Alternate channel in which two games are being played simultaneously. It is only a matter of time until the Big Ten moves all their games to the network. They still need to get the network picked up nationally, but when that happens, ESPN knows they will have to either put up a lot of money or not have any rights to the conference. If you don't think the BTN pissed off ESPN, you weren't paying close enough attention.
