Bengals sign WR Matt Jones

ill take them all. What does the bengals have to lose? Matt JOnes is a 6'6 athlete who once ran the 40 in sub 4.3 times. His contract is pocket change. If he gets in trouble again, the bengals simply cut him. Very similar to the LJ signing. Im loving it.

I've already addressed the ads in another thread. Besides, you love them.

I don't like the signing. I feel they will expect him to play well, and then won't draft any WRs and will be in a worse place next year.

Good signing. For 700K? can't beat that.

Not to mention with the exception of Dez Bryant isn't that many game changers in the draft this year at WR. Low risk high reward

On Lances blog, someone noted that Matt Jones had a horrible workout, yet still was signed. I don't see the Bengals doing much this year in FA, and they probably should just get a WR in the first round, and perhaps even one in the 4th.

In passed drafts I would agree with you on drafting a wr in 1st round. Except this year we don't pick till around 20 i think. The only real game changing receiver that would be worth the 1st round money would be Dez Bryant. I'm not sure what the plans are with Chase Coffman, but a tightend would be more realistic for the 1st round. Guy from Oklahoma Gresham and Florida Hernandez would be key now that Matt jones will be able to spread the field. Bad workout or not the kid still runs sub 4.3 and will stretch the defense.

Golden Tate, if available wouldn't be bad. Trading down if Tate or Bryant aren't there to get Gilyard would be acceptable if the Bengals could draft higher with their 2nd pick.
They need someone who can stretch the field, and it's not TO.

Yea Tate wouldnt be bad but for him or Bryant to fall that far down unlikely like you said.

Gilyard is a little interesting. I'm not sure he is the deep threat that we want. He is not tall, not that much weight on him, and not sure about his 40 but NFL DBs would eat him up if he cant run by them.

People prob won't agree with me but i see Marty more as a Cribbs type player in the NFL for the reasons listed above. A return specialist. He excelled with the return game at UC. Somethings you can't teach and guts is one of them.

I Know the Bengals need a wr, but dont make the mistake that they did when drafting Jerome just to get a wr. Jones is tall and fast and has been out of the league since 08. He'll be fine at Coles spot and like what Quan did in the slot. Occassionaly even Caldwell.
