Could have had a nice job. Why stay at Butler? Why?

Butler has crashed back down to earth.

Getting beat handily by U of L.

Losing to some team named Evansville.

Barely beating Loyola.

Not getting the key recruits in their backyard. Why didn't he jump when he could have?

Valid points--but I cant seem to think of a big time coaching job that opened up last year? When you are in his position you dont take a mid level PAC 10 job-you wait it out at Butler, continue to rack up the wins and get to the tournament until that job comes. (look at it from his view-you expect things to stay the same until they dont at Butler..so just wait it out and get a big job)

I believe he has a far better chance at getting back to the final four sooner rather then later at Butler vs. going to some crappy bcs school. He lost his best player to the NBA last season, someone who left early. When your at Butler, you can't "cash in" on the NCAA championship game a year after being in it.

Sure his team is struggling right now, but I would imagine they will get better soon, and they are already a "name" brand. Believe it or not, I think him at Butler is easier to recruit then him at say Iowa State.

How about this guy's fortunes. Wasn't he working at an investment company or doing sales before he got the Butler job? If I were him, I would be cautious of leaving Butler. What happens if his good fortunes run out? Which could be very much possible with a change of schools, or change of divisions. Plus he has to be a 'god' on the Butler campus. Fans always ask why a coach or player would leave when they are basically 'gods' in their current situation. This year will probably be a rebuilding year, but I have no doubt he will get Butler back to the tourney next year.

He did create his good fortunes regarding the Butler Job. From what I remember, he left his sales job to become a volunteer coach, and worked his way up. It happened fast too, as Thad left for X, then where did the next Butler coach go, Iowa? I'm not too sure, but I know he may have already been fired from wherever he went. Just like you said parker, sometimes you may not want to leave a spot because things won't be as great on the other side.

He obviously can not recruit that well to Butler because top recruits in HIS town don't go there. He should jump when a good job opens up.

Lets be honest, that dude got really lucky.

They beat Murray St. by 2 points.

They beat Syracuse without their best big

Beat a winded K-State

Mich st wasnt healthy at that point.

They still dont get 7 thousand to a game after a national title year. Say what you want about UC attendance but if they went to the finals we would be selling out as would 97 percent of BCS teams and other good programs.

He is also a Butler guy. He was born and raised in Indianapolis and graduated from Butler. He worked at Eli Lily and his dad pulled some strings to get him on at Butler.

:confused::confused::confused:

Everyone gets lucky who wins the national championship. Remember, Duke was one of, if not the best teams last year (obviously) and with a full roster they barely beat Butler. Butler played lock down defense the whole tournament. They were a few inches away from winning the national championship last year. You obviously don't want to give the guy credit, but he can really coach.

Had UC had a similiar year under BK...fans of other teams would have asked the same thing. I think this shows that when you have a good opportunity, a coach should take it. Then again...RichRod should have stayed at WVU. Going big time isn't always what it's cracked up to be.

Good to see you SWG!
