Butch to UT

I enjoy listening to your rant and incorporating Economy 101 basic definitions in your statements. The fact is, us not selling out every game is not the real problem. We could have sold out every game this year and we still would be in the same boat! Face it, Cincinnati especially UC fans are fair weather and they def. aren't going to sell out the stadium. Not to mention the home schedule was god awful and there wasn't that much entertaining football to watch. There are a lot of problems that need to be fixed before UC even comes close to consistently selling out their 35,000 seat arena. Period.

Wrong, wrong, wrong! I get so tired of hearing about bad opponents being the reason games aren't sold out. They sell out at big programs!! This fan base makes every excuse in the world why they don't show up. Tickets sales equal revenue, hot dogs and beer sales equal revenue. Revenue gives you the ability to improve and invest in your facilities. Attendance is huge!! T.V. dollars that are shared are one thing. It effects recruiting visits, it effects the quality of facilities, it effects the money you can pay a coach. Revenue generated by a program is another. OSU football makes enough to support the whole athletic department. Could they do that drawing 20k? No!! Are there other problems? Yes!! But even the ACC acknowledged Louisville was chosen because of their ability to generate revenue and their athletic budget. If they were drawing 6k to a bb game or 20k to a football game they wouldn't have that budget nor the ability to generate that kind of revenue. It's simple.

That is the job of the AD to find something corporations can get behind.
They already know what corporations can get behind it is called potential customers. The more people who come to the stadium the more they get to advertise their product. Any idea why super bowl commercials cost so much. Why TV deals in baseball are are changing the dynamics of the cost structure again. Viewership!!!! The fans pay the bills and drive the economic train. Without the fans you can't get the program off the ground.

We might as well all just give up. It isn't worth the effort.

It's not just fans coming to the stadium, it's television opportunities. Look, UC has the #11 team in the country in basketball. Think of the opportunity for a company like Kroger or P&G or even 5/3rd (again) to not just buy the naming rights but be the one who helps build a new arena and have your adds in placements around the arena where it will be shown on TV as well. UC is going to be a player in basketball for years to come and will be competing for National Championships very soon. This idea of corporate sponsorship is not a far fetched idea.

Why would any corporation buy into a team with no following. Jason it starts with filling the stands. No one said it was a far fetched idea but it takes a srtong following. Some thing we lack. For goodness sakes we have the 11 ranked team in basketball and had 6000 people in the stands. You want a buy in from sponsor you have to show them you have a following.Right now we don't.Why would TV exec's put a team on TV that doesn't have fans. You ever been to Columbus foir a Football game? The town stops. The whole day is planned around the football game.In this town there is more interest in High school football. If you have fans and interest you'll have viewership and sponsors. Companies won't invest money with the hopes that the town will begin supporting the program At least not the amounts needed to make UC a viable program.

Columbus has what, SIX games a year in that town!!!!! Knoxville has SIX games a year in that town!!!! Cincinnati can not be compared to them!! We have six Bearcat games, that coincide with eight NFL games excluding playoffs and 80 home baseball games. This is not an excuse, we should sell out Nippert regularly, but our numbers are going up. Look at where we were 8 years ago! We will get there, I believe in the next 5 years if the next hire sustains this.

Just a nice article written by P. Doc. This guy really knows how to write a good article after a big event happens. http://news.cincinnati.com/article/...UC?odyssey=tab|topnews|text|UC&nclick_check=1

Also, if you are having problems reading articles on the website since they make you pay for them I found a loophole. You get something like 20 free articles then after that you pay. If you just go to your web browser "tools" and click "clear browsing data" it resets you back so you have another 20 free articles.

This article is only singling out the morons we have in our fan base. Many of us, rational UT fans are happy to have him. Hate that it came about the way it did, but that is the way of the coaching world. I was impressed with the hospitality of many of your fans when you came to Knoxville last year and wish you guys the best of luck in a new coach and in the coming season.

Corny slogan #1 for Butch already happened during his introduction-"Inch by inch, we will get better." Guess he can't use "hold the rope" anymore, he let go of his end. Felt bad for our players, they stood up in the UC presser and said "We play for the Univeristy and the City, not a coach." Has to be hard on the players, something that often gets overlooked while people fume with anger. We have plenty of talent, lets celebrate what we still have.
