Cash

There a several things wrong with this team. Cashmere Wright just isn't one of them.

Even though last night was one of his better games in terms of shooting, looking holistically at the season, Cash has definitely been one of the problems. The team goes as he goes and he has been very inconsistent this year in all regards. Add that to the fact that he struggles against pressure and can't make FT's. I guess I'm the only one that finds it odd that they want Dixon to bring the ball up the court when the game is on the line.

Right! I love Cash ability but mentally he isn't alwasy there! If he ever becomes confident he can be scary for other guards!

His whole issue is confidence. Mick has said this all year. When he makes a mistake he gets so down on himself. Yesturday when he missed his free throw Mick jumped all over him about keep playing, finish strong. When things are rolling hes very very good.

I definitely agree with your Guyn comment, but I don't think Cash played good D on Siva. Much better than Guyn though.

Siva is very difficult to keep out of the lane, when Cash got beat it was close enough that Yancy could come over and help. He just blew by Guyn when he was in.

I think that's more a issue of size and free throw shooting. Dixon is the best FT shooter on the team and typically (last night withstanding) is very clutch in the final minutes. Also Dixon size helps him out in getting off passes when trapped and also Cash is quicker, so he might can get to an open spot quicker to recieve a pass if Dixon gets in trouble.

I do understand your point LongHaul about Cash, it just seems to not be the best time to bring it up. He deseerves credit after last night, not a chance to bring up his flaws. I'll agree that Cash isn't flashy and won't break ankles or make the spectacular no-look passes to an open teammate, but there's not much arguing that the offense flows much better when he is in the game than when he is not. Evidenced last night when he picked up his second foul late in the first half and came out, Louisville closed out the half 6-0 and we looked lost on offense. I'm guessing you're not a fan of his style, which is fine. He dribbles a lot, but with this team when he dribbles around it causes the D to follow him and maybe a teammate can get free. It limits potential TO's from other teammates who make bad passes or dribble into double teams too often.

I think his D is underrated. I think his injuries have hindered his lateral movement some and thus he lets a guy by him sometimes, but typically I like my chances of Gates or Jackson or even Mbodj altering a shot of a pg in the paint. He is very good in the press and at getting his hands on balls and creating steals. He creates more turnovers than he commits and that's good enough for me.

I agree with pretty much everything you said except the last sentence. And although I agree with your first sentence, IMO that's part of the problem. Either way re: it being good enough for you, I guess that's where my high expectations come into play. I don't want or expect this team to be middle of the pack in the Big East, I expect that to be at or near the top. To do that, IMO, Cash has to become the leader of this team. Of course other things have to happen as well. But my point was never to say that the team is better off without Cash, because the team is simply better with him in the game.

Too me it is simple when it comes to Cash. Mental preparation. Cash has the potential to be a very good point guard when he slows down and takes what the other team gives him. When his head isn't in the game he takes bad shots, dribbles to bad spots on the floor, penetrates out of control, and makes horrible decisions with the ball. He has to come mentally ready to play and to be the teams engine and facilitator.

I agree to a point. With Cash it is all about how much he is thinking vs reacting out there. When he is thinking, he plays slow and tight. When he is just reacting, he is as good as it gets.

That almost describes our whole team, esp in regards to breaking the press. React and confidently attack the pressure and we crush the press/trap. Think and step back to evaluate and we turn it over for 5 straight layups.

LH your criticisms are not off base for the season as a whole, just ill timed. I'll never see a point in being critical of our own team after a February win over a ranked team.

Cashmere Wright is still way too inconsistent, he hit some very deep three's the other night, but he needs to get more consistent.

I wasn't critical of the team. Just pointing out my observations of Cash in a thread about him, that's all.
