This is all things for the Cayman Islands Tournament...it's finally here!

First game is Monday vs Buffalo. They are #156 in KenPom. So a nice step up.

UC 85
Buffalo 61

I think Kyle said it best. "I wish it was a vacation but we are going there to take home some hardware"

Scouting Buffalo: (Our first real game of the year IMO)
Record: 2-0
Last 2 games: W vs #237 Canisius 80-75, W vs #120 Jacksonville State
KenPom Rank: #155
KP Off Rank: #152
Kp Def Rank: #152
Kp stat of Note: #15 in Offensive Rebounding rate (43% of their misses get rebounded)
Leading Scorer: JR F Nick Perkins 21 PPG

Buffalo has 2 decent wins to start the year, including a 5 point win over Jacksonville state. The Bulls do not have a single Senior on the roster but they run out a lineup of 4 JR's and a sophomore. Through 2 games, its been the Nick Perkins show, he's a 6'8 JR Forward who's putting up 21 points and 5 rebounds on 52% shooting, He can also step out and hit the 3 ball. CJ Massinburg, a 6'3 Jr is also coming up big for the Bulls with a 16/6/3 average through 2 games. He lead the Bulls in scoring last year and could really give UC some fits. I wouldn't call Buffalo a shooting team but more a power/bully ball team where they try to get to the rim. They don't have one single elite offensive rebounder, however as team they rebound the ball on that end extremely well. Kyle and Gary are going to need some help from the guards in this game.

Against Jacksonville State, I saw them push the pace a bit on rebounds and tried to get the ball to the rim before JSU had a chance to set its defense. I think some pressing from our guards should help Gary and Kyle get back to protect the rim.

UC should win this one, but it won't be a cake walk. Need Gary and Kyle to avoid foul trouble and this maybe a good game for Nysier Brooks to get some good minutes in to protect the rim and rebound.

We won't drop a 100 in this one. But I'll call it a success if we drop 80 and play a high 70's possession game.

UC 85-68

I watched part of the Canisius game; I wasn't too impressed tbh, but I still recognize that this isn't a team we can just merely show up against and expect to win by 20+

I really like the way our schedule is set up this year. It's like a gradual build-up to the month of December, which will be pretty brutal -- but we should get enough of a challenge in this tournament to be prepared, and those Xavier/Florida/UCLA games will have us more than ready for conference play.
