Big game. On the road. Lets hope we continue decent defense and the passing game is ready to go.

We will need Iasiah Pead for this game.

If they play focused, smart, disciplined football they have every opportunity to win this game. The question is, will they play that way?

DJ Woods needs to take a look in the mirror and figure out what kind of player and what kind of influence he is going to be on this team... because what happened today both from a results standpoint and an emotional one was unacceptable.

I agree Psax! A bunch of people I was sitting near all by the game thought Woods should have been benched to start the 2nd half to send a message to Mr. Woods. In regards to his blow up, I have no problem with a guy playing with fire, but you can't be out there acting like a fool. If a guy hits you out of bounds or take a cheap shot, get him on another play (but in a clean way).

As for the game, I don't have a lot of confidence in this offense. Maybe not necessarily in this game, but at some point in this season we will need our defense to score on a turnover to help us win a game. Just a few weeks ago, I never thought I would have just made that statement.

If the defense stays healthy, I have confidence in their ability to keep the team in games, maybe save the Oklahoma game...

Looking at the box score from the NCST/UCF game tonight it appears as though NCST has some issues of it's own on the offensive side of the ball... only 239 total yards of offense, including 5-16 on 3rd down... Russell Wilson was a pedestrian 10 of 30 for 105 yards and 1 TD... as for UCF, they were able to accumulate 308 total yards...

NCST won the game 28-21... only because UCF turned the ball over FIVE times, to NCST's 0 turnovers.

UC Can most certainly win this game.

GOod to hear about NC St being beatable and still be 2-0.

I disagree on DJ Woods. His replacement is Danny Milligan. DJ is a big part of the offense and we need have him playing his football to be good.

It was much more important to gel as an offense more than send a message.

DJ is not a hot head. He will check himself.

I was having some rumblings after his second fumble, but honestly the worst thing you can do is show a guy you don't have confidence in him at that point. Yell at him to hold on to the ball and send him back out there to get the reps to shake it off. Once it happens in multiple weeks, then you might have to consider benching him or taking him off punts. As far as the play out of bounds, I like a guy with passion, but I hate cheap shotting. I never saw what happened so I can't honestly make an assessment of it, but a one-time thing doesn't concern me.

What happened was DJ got his feelings hurt because a LB from an FCS school stuck him hard on a return earlier... it was clear on the replay the kid did nothing to DJ on that specific play and was walking away when DJ sought him out and pushed him to the ground... one-time thing or not that is completely unacceptable...

I sit in section 116 (Bearcat Cave/Young Professionals or whatever you want to call it) and had a good view of the play. All I saw was the ISU kid put a good clean hit on him. I saw Woods get up, start yelling and start pushing. I guess maybe the ISU player may have been talking trash or there was something that happened earlier in the game, but I never saw any reason why Woods should have went off like he did. Regardless, his action was unacceptable for a guy who is as close to a team leader as this team has against an inferior opponent. He should know better and lead by better example. I am hoping that the coaches have a serious discussion with him about what they expect from him for here on out.

That was one of my major complaints about the team in general. It looked like they lacked discipline. There were several plays that I saw a little extra pushing and shoving (even more so than the usual amount that will normally happen in the game) and it didn't look like any of the coaches were getting on the players about it. It is one thing to have passion but that passion has to be controlled to an extent during the game. Hopefully this is something the coaching staff looks at and rectifies soon.

I like the extra pushing and getting physical as long as a flag doesn't come in on only one side. I saw the offensive line getting a little mad and I think it is very important for offensive linemen to play nasty. One play stuck out in particular. After getting beat and Collaros scrambling for his life, the lineman who was beat (I don't remember who it was) absolutely pancaked the guy and took his frustration out on the defensive player. In the Fresno game, there was no fire from the line and they didn't look pissed when they got beat. After that play, the line as a whole seemed to play better. I say, be as physical as you want after the play, just be smart about it. Don't get flagged and don't do it in critical situations. I only want the coaches to say something if it costs the team. If not, play nasty, especially on the o-line.

DJ went overboard and really had a bad sequence of plays in the second quarter. I do think the coaching staff needs to say something to him about controlling his emotions because he allowed his emotions to hurt the team.

Does anyone think it's odd that we really aren't moving Zach out of the pocket? I mean, where's the read-option so Zach can either handoff or roll-out and have the option of throwing or running? We aren't even running any designed roll out passes it seems. It just looks like we're either running a designed handoff to the RB, a designed QB run for Zach, or a designed pass play where Zach takes a three step drop and throws from the pocket. It'd be nice to move Zach around and let him build his confidence by making some easy throws where he has a clear throwing lane. Apparently we're also only throwing sideline routes as well with an occasional slant pattern. No TE down the seam, deep post, or deep-in patterns. We ran DJ Woods across the middle on a drag on 3rd and 11 and it was wide open for 20 yards. Watching the ND game and seeing their TEs and WRs consistently running those seams made me think back to the Rutgers game when we just abused them with those quick passes down the middle when they tried to blitz. The whole offense just seems really bland.

I completely agree with the lineman play. I loved that hit as well but that was still within the play. DJ did go way overboard because he did all that work on that return for nothing after his little shoving match.

As for the be as physical as you want after the play that is just not smart football. Winning teams play smart football. If you are as physical as you want and you don't get caught this time it just leads to other times and eventually you will get caught. And it very well could cost you a game. Be as physical as you CAN during the play and you don't have to take an extra shot after the play.

Good observation Racinejake. I was thinking that as well. It seems like they would better use his abilities if you get him on the move.

I think in regards to Zach while getting him out on the edge with the option to either pass or run is a good idea it ultimately goes back to the offensive line... where is the Zach Collaros we saw last year that was equally adept at making plays happen with his feet AND being a pocket passer? The answer is the offensive line hasn't been effective consistently... this offense will be at it's best when Collaros can do both.

It appears after reading some UC forums across the web that confidence in UC football is at the lowest it's been since before the move to the Big East... however, I think a solid showing in Raleigh will do a lot to help quell many concerns people have about the new coaching staff and direction of this program... I actually have a good feeling about this game... I believe the team will use the experiences of the Fresno trip and the first half of the ISU game to it's advantage...

Its ridiculous how quickly people want to jump off the bandwagon. I'm just glad Notre Dame lost. The last thing I want to see is people jumping on his bandwagon.

Maybe the Cats have just kept some of their plays underwraps until the NC State, OK, and Big East games. I think everyone needs to calm down a little and give Butch and Co time to get everything squared away.

I wonder how Pead's knee has responded and if he's going to go tonight. Ultimately if you HAD to choose one position on the team for a starter to go down RB would be at the top of the list, for me at least... Williams and Goebel are certainly capable as a back-up duo.
