I know a lot of fans aren't high on ND at the moment. In fact, UC fans for the most part have been fairly unhappy with the fact that they belong in the BE, except for what truly matters in college...football. ND does play Big East teams every year, as last year in '09, they played Pitt and UConn.
I've seen a long of talk about ND either 'going all in' or leaving entirely. What effect would this have?
With the Big10 looking at possible expansion, one of the names thrown around is ND, along with Mizzou, Pitt, WV and others. I don't believe the Irish will go to the Big10 at this point, but if they did, I don't see them playing any more BE teams.
I'm looking forward to the day that UC plays ND, either at home or in South Bend, Indiana. It's one of the best ways to get much-needed national recruits.
I don't think UC or the BE would be better off if ND left it's current arrangement, and I think it could mean the possible resurgence of the Big10.
This could change down the road, but I think it is possible that ND might join our conference in the future..largely depends on how successful Kelly would be there.
Pitt or WV leaving for the Big10 would not help either. Pitt would be my obvious choice for the Big10, but football-wise, it would be a huge blow. Fortunately, I do think Louisville is on the rise, and BJ should be able to continue Cincy's fortunes of late.
I think Pitt or WV leaving the BigEast, even though they are full members, would have less long-term impact than if ND would. If anything, for their large national audience that nobody else enjoys in our league. We can't even get our local cable company to offer the BE network in Cincy. It would also shut the door for them jumping to the Big10, while leaving an opening for them joining the BE in the future.
At least, that's how I see it.

This shift is scaring schools and conferences. Big East does not need to lose any of the teams it has.

I would not be sad to see WVU go. Their fans are terrible and I dislike them. However, I think Pitt is the most likely. That does scare me. It would hurt the Big East crediability.

It would make sense for them to want Pitt, but as much as I don't like them, I dislike WV even more. Yes, their fans are awful.
