I think that if X played Indiana this year at Cintas they would probably beat them. They are like ND, they never ever lose at home, get all the calls.
Xavier will be very good next year with a healthy Dee Davis, Christon, the two ineligible freshman, the huge kid from WMU and the incoming recurits. I think they can compete for the Big East title (meaning finish in the top 4-5).
Its simple, all those games and their big wins came at Cintas where Xavier is unbeatable. Look at Butler, beat them at home and get beat on the road. They lost to Wake Forest on the road who went 13-18. Wouldnt put their big wins on Mack just that they played at home.
oh, forgot to add my thoughts on rice. don't agree with the firing. was he a little over the top, maybe. that's for you to decide.
what i do know is this isn't a isolated thing. i wonder what hell would break loose if huggs, frank martin, or hell even cronin practice was leaked by a former coach who was fired and looking to even the score. it was a highlight of the ugly side but what about the good side? i'm sure anyone can put parts of a practice together to try and slander someone.
answer this question, what is worse a kids death or someone playing dodgeball with basketballs? where was the public out cry for brian kelly to be fired for ordering that kid to video tape his practice? the public doesn't care about that but if you throw a ball and call someone a name you're painted as some sort of madman.
shame on ru for caving into the public pressure. the fine and 5 games off was fair.
Mick Cronin is on the early list of candidates Rutgers is interested in.
@TomLuicci at Star-Ledger lists these coaches on Rutgers radar: Dan Hurley, John Giannini, Fran Dunphy, Mick Cronin, Eddie Jordan -- Rich Hofmann (@TheIdleRich)
And then they woke up. Rutgers isn't a basketball school, they need to find an Andy Enfield type coach who wants to take a step up from a mid major. Saving is a possibility, Mick is a pipe dream.
unbeatable?
pacific, vandy, vcu, umass, and mighty wofford didn't think so. how anyone can say mack did a good job is beyond me. his team coughed up double digital leads at an alarming rate. that is on mack and his in game coaching skills...not because he had a few bad breaks before the season. people really belive a few additions will fix everything? guess we didn't learn anything watching uk this year. recruits don't fix everything that was a problem the year before.
i think the jury is still out on mack. he was able to roll the ball out to a couple guards and say go score for a few year. now he has his players and system in place and didn't even sniff the nit.

I hate X but I thought Chris Mack did a helluva job coaching this season. I have no problem giving credit where it's due.
I think "helluva job" is a bit of an exaggeration. Their team wasn't stacked but they didn't even make the NIT. Hard to say it was great job to somoene who doesn't even make the NIT. He did have a 5* PG (albeit a freshman) a returning PG who was pretty good and a few somewhat highly rated recruits at one point in time on their roster. I'd say he did an average job IMO.
that "low major" just replaced us in a great basketball conference...and UC is left on the outside looking in once again..."low major" does not apply to Xavier, nor has it for a long time...back to topic, Mack did alright in my opinion...still think it wasn't too much to expect a tournament appearance while playing in the A10...with that said, i wouldnt trade Cronin for him any day...
I agree with Jeff. I gotta give credit where credit is due. They lost their entire starting 5(two unexpectedly), their top five leading scorers, and had two of their freshmen ineligible.
Think of it this way for UC this year:
-We lose Parker, Wright, and Mbodj.
-Hypothetically speaking, Lets say Kilpatrick leaves early(transfers or NBA) in the summer
-Hypothetically speaking, lets say Rubles leaves in the summer as well
In addition to that, lets say Kevin Johnson and Caupain are ineligible...How do you think UC would fare?
Which reminds me, since the Big East would not allow partial qualifiers, is UC now allowed to recruit and sign partial qualifiers in this new league?
I think UC would struggle, which is what I expected from XU. And if that happened and UC didn't make it to the NIT I wouldn't say Mick did a helluva job. I have a hard time saying someone did a helluva job when they have a 5* and a couple 4*'s on their roster and they don't make the NIT. I'd say he did a decent job this year. Just my opinion.

I would hardly call the NBE a "great basketball conference" with what is left. I'm guessing a 4-5 bid conference. The A-10 this year received 5 bids. I don't see where it will be drastically different. I think the AAC should get at least 4 bids every year as well. In basketball, the conference affiliation is so ridiculously over-rated, imo.
