With the Manhattan coach leaving to South Florida, I would assume Savino is going to get a good look at the job in Manhattan. It would be a blow because he is such a good recruiter in the NYC/NYJ area but he is definitely deserving of a HC and it would be nice for Mick Cronin to start his own coaching tree.

Hearing early endorsements among coaches here in NY / NJ for Darren Savino at Manhattan.

First tweet didn't go through. Would love to see UC's Darren Savino. RT @AndrewHill91: @franfraschilla Jaspers need a coach. You interested?

Potential replacements at Manhattan: Andy Toole, Darren Savino, Matt Grady, Rashon Burno, Dan McHale. Orlando Antigua would be great too.

I'd love to see it too. He's been faithful and worked hard for this program. I hope he gets it and I think USF will be better next year for what it's worth.

I agree that would be a blow to our recruiting in the area, but hey, can't hold a good man down.

I also agree about USF. With UL leaving the conference we'll still see that style of play, so that's good.

Savino to Manhattan probably won't take place now. Lance McAlister retweeted the tampa tribune

I don't know what Lance said, refuse to follow him but it will be interesting to see what happens to Masiello. He left Manhattan only to have USF kill the deal due to a background check. He may not be able to return to Manhattan, stay tuned.

Edit:
Apparently it looks like he lied about graduating from UK

That's pretty shitty. I understand lying is bad and all, but is that really a reason to not hire him? Especially if he is one of the up-and-coming coaches and has shown success at Manhattan.

But it doesn't really matter, because USF is a dumpster fire of an athletics program and nobody will win there

I don't believe Manhattan is going to allow Massielo to come back...

#Bearcats RT @bkoch: NY Times: #UC assistant Darren Savino could be candidate for Manhattan head coaching job.

I'd hate to see Davis or Savino go but they deserve shots at head coaching gigs. I bet Mick has some potential replacements in mind, hopefully strong recruiters

I'm pretty sure most employers would make the same decision if someone lied about their education on their resume. I don't see why this would be any different.

If we were To lose Davis or Savino who would be possible (realistic) replacements? I'm not talking about people who we dream would be candidates. I'm talking about legitimate possibilities!

I don't know specific names but I'm pretty it would be somebody who worked with Mick at Murray State or somebody who has ties to the New York metropolitan area

Andre Tate could be a good candidate for an assistant.

  • Former UC player
  • Led Cincy St. to a NJCAA National Championship
  • Great offensive coach - teams constantly break the 100 points mark

I would like to see a former player on the staff. Don't know what options are out there though

I like this suggestion a lot, but I would probably wonder about recruiting. I know half this board thinks I'm insane, but I think Mick is a great gameday coach and don't think he needs much help at schemes. I always had the impression both Davis/Savino were heavily involved in recruiting. I expect the same would be true for Savino's replacement if he leaves.

Savino has been terrific with game planning. Actually all three assistants have done great scouting.

Good point. But he does have his "connections" - did you know that Nick Van Exel Jr. played for him at Cincy St.? (Prior to be convicted of murder).

Speaking of - Van Exel is an interesting candidate as well. He has a number of years of NBA coaching experience now, and is currently with the Milwaukee Bucks. Could use that clout to tell kids (especially guards) that he can get you to the NBA.
