Detroit is coached by Mike Davis, who has been at Indiana, UAB, and Texas Southern before taking over the Titans in 2018.

Detroit can score. Their offensive efficiency is about on par with ours. Their strength is from beyond the arc, where they attempt 44% of their shots and make 39%, good for 23rd in the country. They are also a top 50 offensive rebounding team. They don't get to the rim much at all, with only about a quarter of their shots coming from close range resulting in an abysmal 43% from inside the arc. They bomb away and go after the rebound.

The main guy to focus on is the coach's son, 6'1" senior PG Antoine Davis, who is hitting 42% on 10 attempts per game. Davis is averaging 25 points per game in his career and has made the third most threes in NCAA history, surpassing JJ Redick this year. Davis is very likely to set the all time record. He has put up 40 points several times, including a 48 pt game as a freshman.

Three other players are hitting 40%+ from three on at least 20 attempts for the season. Detroit runs a deep bench, with only Davis and one other player averaging more than 24 minutes.

The defense is horrible. They give up a lot of threes at a 40% clip and are terrible on the defensive glass. They dare you to beat them with the same strategy they use on offense.

I think we'll want to put MAW on Davis most of the game, and force everyone off the three point line. Rebounding will be important.

They appear to be a very inconsistent team. 12 games in and they've beat Tulsa, Ohio, beat Charlotte by 21, and then have also lost to Charlotte by 1, as well as losing by 32 to Washington State.

DDJ did an incredible job on Davis tonight. We were able to get the ball inside whenever we wanted. Lakhin continues to improve his all around game and can dominate smaller teams.

Felt like the late 1st half-early 2nd half run was a smokescreen for a lot of bad/lazy offense during the rest of the game, but our defensive effort on Davis made up for it and allowed us to win comfortably.

Otherwise, the biggest development for me was the shortened bench. Starters all played 29-33 minutes with Skillings (19 min), and Oguama (16 min) serving as the lead subs. Josh Reed only played 7 minutes and Hensley didn't enter the game until the 14:05 mark of the 2nd half just to make a brief 3 minute cameo.

Although we were 6 for 34 from three, the offense still put up more than a point per possession. In many games that poor of a performance from beyond the arc could have doomed us. It was good to see us look to the post.

Yes the minutes were interesting. Maybe a primer for conference? Vik getting 30 minutes was a welcome surprise. Zero fouls

Agreed. If we make 35% of those threes we are in a 30 point blowout rather than just a comfortable win. Nolley and DDJ were somewhat quiet for points but we still scored the ball in other ways. A lot of Vik's points were off easy dunks and feeds which means we are actively looking for him.

Also the defense is picking up a bit recently with DDJ and Nolley increasing their effort. We need that to keep up if we are going to do any damage in conference play.

OOC grades vs pre season expectations.

Vik...A+ (enough said)
DDJ...(A) has improved an already well rounded game
Nolley...(B) I think he has more in the tank on D and rebounds
MAW...(B-) He has played his role pretty well
JD...(D) He has gone backwards a little because of shooting

Skillings...(B) The frosh have been solid first year but not spectacular
Reed...(B) Same as above
Ody...(C) But lately has been closer to a B
Hensley...(C-) Expected more improvement
Ezikpe...(F) Enough said
