I was at the game tonight and it was hard to watch. The whole team played very sloppy and timid. they may end up with 30+ turnovers against SDSU and VCU.

Wont any team in college basketball do that ? Good players find a way to impact the game. He didn't bring much to the table today IMO

Not in there 3rd game in a new offense and with new players everywhere. Once they all get comfortable Cobb, Caupain, Ellis will be the go to scorers.

Injury treatment is pretty much the only time we are denied a player request post game...

Doesn't coach Cronin usually make Freshman untouchable for the first half or so of the season as well Chad? Or am I remembering incorrectly?

I took a friend to the game and that was one of the worst games I have watched in that building. The officiating crew were TERRIBLE. I'm not one to usually complain about refs, but boy did they get booed pretty loud a couple times. Shaq should not have even been allowed in the building. One of his passes to the post was flat out embarrassing. He had one of his rebounds just taken right from him. Caupain was the one bright spot, but he did have a couple of turnovers that made me scratch my head. When he picked up his dribble at half court I almost screamed. He had a 5'7 guard on him all game. Why did we not attack that more? I don't care how quick he is. Another area that concerned me was the amount of wide open threes Eastern Illinois had. We cannot give those free baskets up. I know this is the painful learning curve from implementing 7 new players but damn that was painful.

Bill Koch said it best: "Sophomore Kevin Johnson started in Guyn's place and scored two points in 18 minutes. He was 0-for-6 from the field, 0-for-5 from 3-point range and committed three turnovers. Cobb, coming off a 24-point performance against Morehead State, scored four points in 23 minutes, going 0-for-5 from the field, 0-for-3 from 3-point range. Between the two, UC got six points and 0-for-11 shooting from its shooting guard position."

The sad part is, I know exactly which one you're talking about. The defender was basically posting up on either Ellis or DeBerry (can't remember) and Shaq just lopped it right to the defender. It was almost like he thought he was on UC. His minutes need to start getting cut ASAP. Doesn't deserve more than 10-15 a game.

I don't remember any player that has actually gotten worse in their time here as much as Shaq has. As his role and the pressure increase, his game sadly disappears. He could have flourished in a different offense in a smaller conference. He should have went to Long Beach State

It's funny watching the post game press conference hearing TC talk about the young guys stepping up considering he is only 18 years old lol. But he definitely showed some leadership last night the same can't really be said about some of our upperclassman.

He's going to be great here.

Caupain and Ellis are the only players on this team right now that seem to be consistently aggressive on offense. Moore and Thomas show flashes, but they pass up good shots to take bad ones 2/3 of the time. Sanders and Clark are steady, but Sanders is maxed out on potential and Clark is not confident enough yet to call for the ball and make a move in the post. And with the exception of Cobb in the Morehead game, none of our other guards have even had anything remotely resembling a decent game. I didn't expect Morman to contribute on offense this year, but Johnson has been extremely disappointing and Guyn is either unable (whether due to injury or lack of talent) or unwilling to take the ball to the rim or find ways to get open shots. Then you have DeBerry, who doesn't seem to have the stamina or ability to stay out of foul trouble in order to stay on the court.

This team is going to have to show major improvement throughout the course of the year or else we're looking at an NIT type of season. You just can't be a good team when you can't find a single guy to consistently score more than 5 points at either wing position.

I don't know why anyone should be surprised to see player's offensive games stagnate or even go downhill after coming here. We've seen it over and over. Guys like Shaq seem to be thinking way too much rather than just playing. He's thinking too much about the intricacies of an offense that produces 50 points a game. Go figure. We have one NBA player and he was only here only one year. Cobb has one of the best offensive games we've seen in years and Kevin Johnson, who has been horrible all season, was shoved ahead of him into the starting lineup. Thats a great way to build on a player's confidence and reward him for a great game. Thus....he goes 0-for......and so does Johnson. Morman has a great offensive game in the opener and looks like an absolute stud, and then barely plays the next game. In fact he's not allowed out of the locker room after halftime. Since then, he's gotten almost zero playing time and his confidence looks shot. Clark averages something like 37 points last year, and looks afraid to even take a shot this year.

As I've said before, we have a some history of players eventually having pretty good senior seasons, but for the most part, they rarely show us the offensive games that they seemed to have in high school once they get here.

But, they all show a lot of improvement defensively.

Can you please give examples of players that have regressed from Freshman to Senior season?
