Well, Notre Dame is in the Big East in other sports outside of football. Ohio State is an in-state rival of sorts. No idea on Michigan.

We're competing with Michigan and O$U for football recruits.

If you look at the recruit profiles, almost all the ones UC has offered or has interest in is very similiar to all the schools surrounding us. This is why I follow who attends junior days/spring games/official visits/etc.
Know your enemy, is my mantra.
