Ok my guy.

It’s guys like you who keep setting the bar higher and higher for Brannen by down playing the importance of Mick.

LOL. What are you talking about? You're the one holding Brannen to higher standards because of your man crush on Cronin. Most people on this board have not set any expectations and are waiting to see if Brannen will work out or not. Get over it - Cronin left for UCLA and is not coming back.

I'm sure ucla is accepting fans....

Taryn Todd will be on campus tomorrow for an official visit. He's a 6-4 guard from Canada. 20 PPG, 47.7 FG%, 3.5 RPG, 1.2 APS, 1.2 BPG. Class of 2020.

Has offers from Kansas State and Howard.

Please clarify “nationally relevant”. In our little bubble, yes, it’s nice to think the Bearcats are on minds of every basketball pundit. Truth is, they’re not. Spin it how you want, but the post season matters. And they have not been a serious threat for years. Even when the bracket opened up for them like a gift from heaven, Mick couldn’t take advantage. He was done here. He chose to leave. And it’ll be ok if Brannen succeeds or not.

Please clarify "post season", cuz the back to back conference tournament champion trophies would like to have a word with you...

Seton Hall, St Johns & South Carolina All offered brooks.

Brannen is 0-2 in the NCAA tourney.

If he misses the tourney 2 years in a row, I want him gone and let the new Coaching search to begin. we can't afford to miss 2 tourneys in a row in a brand new arena.

So in my opinion JB has 2 seasons to work some before a fan base with extremely high expectations starts calling for his head.

Y-I-K-E-S....my man, you gotta get a hold of yourself. You're off the rails lately. I was a cronin guy, as apparently you are, but this is an atrocious take. Yes i'm nervous next year, but turmoil is what I expected and the reason i did not want Mick to leave. We turned out ok after Huggs, and im confident we'll do the same after Mick. However, a 2 year leash is flat out absurd. Mick would have failed your test, as would just about every incoming coach to a program. You gotta do better than this.

From his videos he looks like a poor mans LoJo. Extremely athletic, long and a bit taller then LoJo. Needs to improve his shooting and likely his passing and ball handling as well. Needs to put on some more muscle as well, but might be able to contribute in year one.

There are still some guys I would take on our roster for 2019. You have to also assume if we get an assistant coach who can recruit we might get to add a couple more to the list for 2019 and especially the 2020 class.

Visits coming up with Williams and Todd. Wilcher recently opened his recruitment back up. I would take the Maidoh kid too.

I am very glad we didn't go after Domask. That was a hard no for me.

We need a recruiter with some established connections and I am guessing Brannen is narrowing that down to some final candidates.

Still plenty of time and a little talent left out there. No need to get super stressed just yet. Yes, I get a little nervous too but I want our coach to be calculated and not desperate like some of our fans.

I think he looks pretty good with the ball in his hands. I liked the step back 3 in his mix tape. Especially in transition he looks good. I don't know his 3 point stats but that would be important. Looks like he can play some D as well. I like his stop and go action as well. Looks smooth to the hoop. He can play at this level.

JB also offered Ryan Kalkbrenner yesterday from St Louis, MO. 7 ft center from 2020 class. Offers from Illinois, St louis, Kansas State, Rice and UL Monroe.

Yah...so just a few off the top of my head for 2020 are...

Saunders
Loveday
Hugley
Scrubb
Kalkbrenner

So recruits can’t fall into your lap, but coaches can? Bohn could have hired any other number head football coaches. He chose Fickell. A great choice. Just because your not happy with the loss of Mick and hiring of Brannen doesn’t diminish the Fickell hiring. And for the record, there’s only a minority of people “grasping for hope and prayer”.

Doesn't deminsh the fickell hiring?? I said UC got lucky as in he was practically the most perfect choice since Kelly but even better bcuz of in state ties but anyway how do you know there's only a ha "minority" of ppl grasping?... Ignorance is bliss I guess, honestly this Brannnen guy and bohn got us in a bad spot, bc if he had any cache we wouldn't be talking all this player turnover. Good team just withered away... unfortunately if he couldn't carry the weight he may be hired more than two since him and bohn are best buds

And let me just say for the record was I a Mick lover? No... Mick had his aspects that he needed to improve upon. But to put that in perspective I was able to realize he got the job around 35, in the toughest conf in America, rebuilding a program in a worse off spot than it is now. Did I want to get further in the tournament? My god who wouldn't?.. but to put it into perspective he did damn near have a 65 to 70 winning percentage... It took a few coaches considered great today time to make that tournament run.. some never win a championship... But you have to be positioned to even get close to winning one. Am I overreacting about Brannnen? Hell no. The guy has a job to do which is to win a chip if not chips.. that possibility has been jeopardized as are as this year is concerned and it would have to fall on him and bohn. But anyway

Kansas state also on his list? Hopefully them just signing Sloan would move the needle towards us.

Poor 3 point shooting seems to be the main weakness of his according to scouting reports I can find. Strengths are defense, transition play and supposed to have a nice pull up jumper. I agree he can play at this level, but will probably will take a year or two to get major minutes. Still if he can buy us 5-10 minutes per game next year would be an excellent add.

Brannen may soon feel the problem Cronin seemed to have. We need defenders and we need scorers and you can't ignore one side of the court. I think Brannen will get his mix. If Cronin was a 75% vs 25% athletes vs scoring guys...Brannen may be the other way around ( or maybe it's 60-40). But we are going to need both to play at both ends. We can't have a team of scorers who can't jump or defend. And we can't have a team that can jump and defend that can't score.

For now (2019) Brannen may have to resort to getting the athletes who can't score to fill out the depth on the roster. The multi asset player has likely been picked apart by now with little left to go after. 2020 he can focus on getting his offensive talent with a solid roster structure in place. Maybe...just maybe...he can do a little more with the skill sets of the athletes than Cronin could. Shooting and dribbling etc.

What are your thoughts on Isaiah Moss? Transfer guard with a proven track record in the portal. Could be a backup or starter depending on Johnson's development. I think it would be a home run after missing on Sloan.

I would say sign me up right now!

I'll take T Todd and T Williams right now. Sign them both. Follow with I Moss and C Maidoh. I'm good for 2019

So far Brannen seems mostly to be leaning towards athletes over shooters. I've always thought that is the reasonable approach for our level. Athletic shooters tend to be too high rated for us to get (at least they were under Mick and I'm not convince we are going to see a huge jump in recruiting with Brannen or any other coach for that matter).

You can teach athletes to shoot (which is why you see great athletes getting drafted high in the NBA, even if they aren't fully developed yet) you can't teach shooters to athlete. It comes down to player development and player development on the offensive end is where Brannen needs to separate himself from Cronin (hopefully maintaining close to the same level of development of the defensive end). The thing is, on the offensive end a good deal of player development is dependent on the player, the player needs to work out, eat right and go out and shoot 1000 times a day during the off-season and a coach can't really force him to do that. Which is why coaches talk just as much about attitude and personality as they do about skill when recruiting (although attitude is harder to judge from an outside perspective though).

I expect Brannen to continue Mick's trend. Elite athletes who he thinks are teachable and who have excellent work ethic. There's a reason those types of players are generally higher rated then unathletic pure shooters. The ideal would be to get some Cumberland types - good enough athletes with good offensive skills - but even those types of guys are higher rated then we could normally grab with Cronin. If there is a change under Brannen I doubt it will be dramatic, a small shift towards slightly less athletic guys and slightly better shooters. It may also go the opposite way though - more athletes with less offensive skills because Brannen thinks he can develop their offense.

It's too early to say with Brannen what he will go for. So far in 2019 it seems like he is going for athletes over shooters, but that may just be because he has limited options available. For 2020 it's hard to know who his actual targets are this early, so hard to judge from that to. We should learn more over the next couple of years.
