Shit happens and kids are going to do dumb stuff. In stead of fans around the country laughing or calling them cheaters we should all applaud OSU for owning it.

You know every SEC school would have denied denied denied. OSU gained some respect from me.

Except they should be suspended immediately and not be allowed to play in the Sugar Bowl. By the way, this stuff happens all the time in Columbus. I know of players who wouldn't show up to their job and still get paid among other things. OSU players are rock stars in this city but a lot of them don't get caught because they don't post it on Twitter.

Don't be surprised to see some of these guys go pro and never have to sit out a game at all.

Is corruption at Ohio State really a news story? Seems like it is an everyday occurance. The good news is they get to play in the Sugar Bowl so they get more stuff they can sell before they declare for the NFL Draft and avoid the 5 game suspension.

Clarett was provided with "improper" benefits by tressel and his staff.Cash was handed to Clarett, the better he played... All Covered up...

Woodey Hayes anyone? O ya besides him punching a player... he had several assault charges outside of football, that never seemed to amount to anything. hmm someone paid some money.

Art Schilichter gambeled on everything. What happened to that, nothing because it was denied and covered up.

Must I go on?

It's sad that they have multiple compliance officials there, yet this stuff still happens. I'm sorry, but pleading ignorance is just that....ignorance or lies.
The NCAA needs to get serious...starting with the SEC and Texas..who happens to have shady stuff going on down there as well.

^^ The NCAA only punishes non-elite schools. Take for instance, SMU. Sure SMU was dirty, but so was everyone else in the SWC at the time. They couldn't have SMU upstage Texas and TA&M so they levied the death penalty on them. They would have never done that to UT.

USC has gotten maybe the worst punishment of any of the tradiitinal power schools. The Trojans must have really been out of contol in order to levy the type of sanctions they received.

After hearing more about the situation I want to retract what I said. I thought OSU put out the suspensions. I really though they would suspend the players for the bowl game.

Hearing the OSU AD or assistant AD made it worse IMO. He was constantly making excuses for the players.

I don't really blame OSU but I don't think they are taking the penalty with class like I thought they were.

IMO the NCAA is a load of Sh@#. TV deals for college football make millions. Analysis, blogs, photos, videos make millions on college football. Yes, it is clear that selling things given to a player through the Collegiate program is illegal, but seriously...Stop using them to make profit if it is a one way street

No one is using anyone. You kno what you sign up for.... These clowns are getting paid to play. They get a free education. It is not my problem if they choose to take that opportunity or not.

These "student athletes" are getting paid to play. Their 100k worth of education is their salary, not to mention living expenses and monthly stipends. These kids come out with no debt and a huge head start IF they graduate with their notoriety for playing football. Its such a joke people think these kids deserve money for playing an Amateur sport. No way do I believe they sold these awards to "help" their families. That to me is a cover up for what they really sold them for; straight $$$$. Not to mention if these were UC football players selling their BEAST rings or whatever I would be pissed as a fan. Its basically spitting in the program's and fellow players face saying the teams accomplishments don't mean $hit.

The NCAA uses college athletes with all the TV deals, blogs, videos, bowls, etc when they expect players to not receive anything. A scholarship is part of D1 athletics, true. But when millions of dollars are involved it does not equal out.

Being a D3 athlete and paying my way, I respect all that D1 athletes have achieved and should be expected to receive. If they are getting paid straight cash to play, then so are all the other D1 schools. After all the practices, games, film sessions, off season workouts and classes, what is wrong with selling something you have earned? The NCAA is a one way street and it shows!

All I am saying is that if OSU players are selling rings and what not...why shouldnt they. I can go into a sporting goods store and buy Collaros or Pryors jersey in the same color and number as their school. Why can't they sell it??

They earned a victory in a bowl game or earned an MVP award. Once in their posession, Why can't they be allowed to sell it??

I agree with your thoughts at the end.

However, what other college sport other than basketball is as written about, broadcast, or sold more merchandise than D1 football???

Yes, it is an NCAA violation and they should be suspended. But I defend these guys. AJ Green was suspended for selling his jersey as well. The standout WR for GA. But that guy was used more than any other player for a program. He simply dominated and other than a free education he got nothing.

Does a kid with smarts who brings in nothing for the school promotionaly get a free education?? Yes. They are smart and get a free education. Thats fine, however there are no games or analysis or magazines featuring these people that bring revenue to a school like fooball or basketball collegiate athletes...

Your logic is clownlike.

If these baboons cant follow the rules or feel as tho they are being cheated. Dont play. Dont get a free education. Go back to the hood.

People get a free education for being smart or excelling at sports. Thats fine. Then sell jersey's for kids who get an A in Chemistry or put exams for accelerated classes on ESPN

My logic makes sense for any human who has their jersey on sale at the store or has their face plastered all over the national network in TV or magazines

people who get free academics for educational reasons have rules to follow as well. Keep a certain raised GPA or lose there scholarship.

Follow rules or dont get your free education. Its simple. Unfortunately meatheads cant follow simple rules; then other meatheads want to come to there side and argue stupid points that are beyond clownlike.

HAHA I smell jealousy.

Each conference of a BCS team receives about 18 million in revenue. A city that hosts a BCS game receives about 1 Billion!!. How much of that goes to the players????? This does not include the TV deals, the ticket sales, the media write up's or the jersey sales of players for a school during the regular season

Does a kid who knows how fuse DNA together bring in that much to an institution??? Hell NO

Don't hate the player, hate the game

In addition to nearly $30,000 per year, if out of state, for tuition, OSU players receive $1400 per month (as of 2 years ago) for living expenses. They are getting paid to play as far as I am concerned.
