Sources said Nebraska is leaning towards leaving the Big XII to join the Big 10 this friday.

This could be the start of something major with conference expansion.

Funny thing is.... The Big 10 has not extended an offer to Nebraska. ha They better hope they do.

They already said they would only leave if they received an offer from the Big Ten. I would be shocked if the Big Ten hasn't been talking to Nebraska, and they just decided to say that they would leave with the Big Ten offer.

Regarding something major with conference expansion, I think we can blame that on the Big East. Also, will the Big 12, after Oklahoma, Nebraska, Missou and maybe a few others leave, be worthy of a BCS at large bid? I wonder what would happen there.

What are we blaming on the Big East?

would be awsome if after the six teams left for the Pac-16, the Big East could gain Iowa State, Kansas, Kansas St, and Baylor (to keep them in the BCS, otherwise they could be done)

Are you suggesting breaking into a new conference? The basketball schools would not allow for 20 + in the Big East basketball haha.

Well I'm inferring that Syracuse, Pitt, Rutgers and someone else leaves for the Big Ten. If only Syracuse and Rutgers left we could take Kansas St., Kansas, and Iowa State.

If Syracuse, Rutgers and Pitt leave we would have 5 teams left in football and 13 in basketball. Iowa State, Kansas, Baylor and Kansas St. that would be 9 in football (with a potential for 3 more like ECU, Memphis, Central Florida). That would make 12 in football and 20 in basketball (two divisions).

"New" Big East Football:
Cincinnati
UCONN
WVU
Louisville
USF
Kansas
Kansas State
Baylor
Iowa State
ECU
Memphis
UCF

"New" Big East Basketball (2 Divisions):
East:
Georgetown
UCONN
Providence
USF
Seton Hall
Villanova
ECU
UCF
WVU
St. Johns

West:
Baylor
Kansas
Kansas St.
Iowa St.
De Paul
Memphis
Cincinnati
Louisville
Notre Dame
Marquette

Of course this is just my dream there is no indication of any of this happening.

I'm blaming all the "bigger is better" going on in the major conferences. That's what I'm blaming on the Big East. I know UC is part of the Big East, but personally I'm not a fan of the "mega conference." My ideal basketball conference would be just like the way the Pac 10 was set up. Everyone gets a home and home with everyone in the conference.

I see this as a big win for the Big East. Hopefully Big 10 stops there like originally planned.

If they stop there we keep on going as is. If the Pac 10 raids the big boys of football from the Big XII then the football Big East schools break away from the Big East and invite Kansas and Kansas st. Maybe some others but those two for sure.

BCL just reported that Big 10 has offered Nebraska, per FSN Ohio.

Thanks for the info. Not too surprising. You have to think Missouri and Rutgers are next to get invites (assuming Texas has an invite already on the table).

You would think Jason. Although, I still think the B10 is trying to court ND. The B10 wants ND in their conference in the worst of ways. If they don't get the Damers, there is a good shot the B10 stops at 12 with Nebraska and simply waits and try to grab them down the line sometime maybe in the next 10 years (and add Rutgers or someone other BE team would would gladly jump to the B10).

It seems to me we are about to see this all come to a halt very soon. At the end of the day, the change will not be as dramatic as it has been sounding. I see it as follows:

B10- adds Nebraska. Announces it will remain at 12.
Pac10- Adds Colorado and Utah.
B12- Replaces Colorado and Utah with BYU and NM or Memphis.
ACC- remains the same.
Big East- Adds Temple or UCF
MWC- Adds Boise, Fresno State and maybe another.

I intentionally left ND off because the Big 11 has had an open invitation to ND for 10 years or more and I don't see them losing their independence any time soon.

I just can't see the Big 11 stopping at 12 because it is all about money for the BTN and while Nebraska is attractive, they wouldn't be your top choice from a revenue standpoint. I think the Pac-10 is going to get very agressive soon and I don't see the Big 11 or SEC standing idle. This is what I see happening:

Pac-10 adds: Texas, Texas Tech, Texas A&M, Oklahoma, Oklahoma St. and either Baylor or Colorado.
Big 10 adds: Nebraska, Missouri, Rutgers, GT and either ND or Pitt
SEC adds: Florida State, Miami, Clemson, and Memphis
ACC adds: Cincinnati, Louisville, WVU, Syracuse, UCONN, USF, ECU, and either Pitt (if not part of Big 10) or Temple.
Big East adds: Xavier, Dayton, and two others from A-10 and becomes a basketball only league.
Big 12 either dissolves or adds teams from the MWC and Boise State.

You're correct on this. Which is team 13 and 14 will be Mizzou and Rutgers. 3/4 TV markets there.

I think the Rutger's market is overrated. They would do better with Nebraska and even Kansas. Football may be king, but Kansas would draw alot of viewers to their network.
Although the big10 throws out alot of offers in Jersey (same as UC and the BE).

The number of viewers doesn't matter. It is all about available households. Since the BTN has positioned itself as a standard cable channel, they get paid per household. NYC would be a huge market for them and Rutgers is the best available option near NYC.
