Has Mick taken us as far as he can?

I'm sayin I disagree with the fact that he knows his x's and o's. Passing the ball around the 3 point line between two players against a zone is abc's, elementary play to be clear.

And if you feel that he does know x's and o's, knowing and teaching are two completely different things.

Not to mention being a motivator is part of being a coach. Players must buy in.

I get what you're saying. The point I'm trying to make is the fact that his team didn't get enough passes into the high post and ran the shot clock down too far had nothing to do with Mick's knowledge. It had to do with the players not listening to Mick's knowledge (whether it's his fault or their that they didn't listen is an entirely different discussion).

As for the rest of your post, are we forcefully agreeing with each other? We have both said that Mick is not doing a great job coaching. I don't see where the argument is: The only part of your original post that I disagree with is his knowledge...not his coaching skill.

I gotta think it's a shared problem between Mick and the players (which, of course, puts it all in MC anyway).
Foolish turnovers and fouls are something to avoid in HS, much less college. Basketball IQ is learned more by playing, not easily coached. Free throws are something practiced on your own time. Also, the players suffer from a severe lack of leadership within their own ranks. It's telling that LS (a freshman) brings the energy more than the older guys.

The UC offense is getting better at attacking zone's, but the season is 2/3 over. The lack of someone who can shoot a solid 15 footer hurts. It's either a 3 or points around the basket. Therefore, MC should have his guards driving inside more and dishing out or creating towards the hoop. Passing the ball around the perimeter only lets the other team rest. I don't know if MC deserves to be let go this year, but I do know I want to see some serious improvement next year. Most UC fans had high expectations this year, and I don't see that changing next year, Born Ready or not.

Side note: I am now drinking the world's largest mojito, so my posts will become less and less coherent over the next hour.

I'm sure we both see the overall picture. Need to improve though, whether it is x's and o's or players.

Also wanted to say I wasn't one of those guys saying bad hire either at the time. Always wanted to give Mick a chance, but my patience is running thin.

Patience is definitely running thin, however I will give him this year and next to turn this ship around. If he can't get us to the NCAA next year we definitely need to go in a new direction!

Totally agree.

On a separate note, let me just add that we as Bearcats fans have a tendency -- probably as a result of the way message board discussions have gone in the past couple of years -- to label fans as either "Mick lovers" or "Mick haters." The truth, it seems, is much more complex than that. It's important that we understand the shades of gray between those two positions and realize that most fans fall in between. Let's not assume that because one fan says something positive about Mick that he is a total Cronin apologist...and likewise, someone that points out a flaw is not a Mick hater. Unless they call him a "munchkin" or some similar idiotic, 3rd grade insult.

Lance (the other one) posted his contract which is through 2014. For schools with money, it's not an issue. However, with UC it could well be.

How is it an entirely different discussion?
Option A: Mick doesn't have a zone offense
Option B: Players dont listen to Mick

Do you see something in both those options that are the same? MICK! If he doesn't have a zone offense, thats his fault; If they players don't listen to him, thats still his fault, he is the head coach, make them listen. Im tired of everybody giving excuses for Mick. It's just not working, it never will with him. Let's cut our losses and move on.

The discussion between ready2go and I was whether Mick understands the game of basketball. Whether he's good at coaching it or not is irrelevant to that point. In essence, I think Option B in your above contention is the correct answer.

I'm not making excuses. Your above point is certainly relevant to this thread...I'm simply saying it's not an indicator that Mick doesn't understand the game, and therefore is irrelevant to the discussion I was having.

See my previous post: Not everyone that says something positive about Mick is a "Mick lover."

I don't want to start talking next year yet, but how realistic is it that He can do better things with next years team? I have a good feeling Lance will choose to leave, but I suppose he may not. If he does, I don't think things look very promising for next year.

I can't believe no one has recognized this yet. Keep up the good work Adrock! Throw down another one for those of us on Bearcat Talk who can't start drinking till later in the evening.

Ha crazy, I too am a fellow homebrewer! This isnt the time nor forum but I'm bottling some American Wheat tonight and have 50 bottles of Irish Red ready for the weekend (not that I will be drinking all of those).

Back to the topic at hand. I think next year may be addition by subtraction. IMO DV has lost his mental mojo and doesnt care anymore. How a senior who has never been to the NCAA gets to that point is beyond me, but thats where I think he is. Not to mention I really enjoyed the lineup of Lance, Cash, Gates, Thomas, and Bishop that was on the floor during the Cuse game.

I've always wanted a nice home brew, micro brew accustomed to my tastes. Ill call it the pink slip which is what Mick should get.
