Homecoming Scrimmage

He certainly reminds me of Van Exel, possibly minus the great 3-point shooting. I'm hoping by this time next year, he has a similar shot to Van Exel. Probably wishing for too much but his highlight videos were pretty impressive, albeit against weak competition. Last year he only scored 7 points against UCONN, so that is a little scary, since that was one of his few tougher opponents.

I'm sure UConn made life pretty tough on him, since there probably weren't any other Sacred Heart players who belonged on the floor.

While the stats disagree (think he shot 31% from deep at SH), I think he's got a chance to be a solid shooter here. If you've seen his highlights, most of his threes at SH were from LONG range, beyond the NBA line. He was a one-man show there, so he hardly got any open looks. Double-teamed constantly. I like to think that with more talent around him, he'll be less-focused on by defenses, and will be able to get more open and can be more selective.

You actually get to see each player playing free and easy in a natural environment and it's amazing how talented some of them actually are. Once the season starts, the pace of play slows to a crawl and something weird happens to many of them. I still have faith in what I saw out of JJ in last year's scrimmage and i believe, or should I say hope, that we get to actually see his talent blossom before he gets out of here in 3 years. I'm certainly looking forward to seeing Broome compete against the other guys on the team and how Cumberland performs offensively. We certainly need him to help to upgrade the offensive options that we have at our disposal.

It happens when they start playing decent competition. Mick reverts to crawl ball once there is a threat of a loss. The UNLV situation covered up the fact that last year was Mick's worse coaching job since 2009-10.

I'm looking forward to the scrimmage. I agree with LT, playing at the Shoe gives us the optimal chance to see them. They actually play an open scrimmage rather than the stupid shooting contests they do at the one on fountain square and the banks.

I'm also interested to see the progress of Fifth Third arena. They have been working on those new suites. Would be cool to see.

Yeah we all know how much you enjoy "your team" losing.
Clearly not his team. He'd rather be right with his negative posts than see UC and Cronin be successful. That's why I say he's a troll, but L-T is a true fan.

Enough of that.

I'm so bummed I'm going to miss the scrimmage. I'm out of the country for work over that weekend. I can't wait for the season to begin.

I'm hoping there will be plenty of posts on how they looked.

Go Cats!

I wonder how good that white kid from old dominion or where ever he came from is he looks pretty tall. The scrimmage will also show how Cumberland is a defending, Cronin says in every interview that Cumberland needs to improve in his defending, I think that means he is too slow to guard people right now. Plus I'd like to see the other freshman but it seems like Cumberland should get some big time minutes so I'm very interested in seeing him play against college competition.

Walk on is nothing to get your hopes up

Not liking a coach has nothing to do with being a great fan of the program. There have been times in the past when NTS has piled on me about my Cronin stance, just like everyone else. I have never once doubted that he is a loyal fan. The guy has posted on here 6,500 times since 2010. No non-fan would post on a fan site that many times. Additionally, he has spent a lot of time thru the years researching and providing a ton of great stats for all of us to enjoy. His Cronin stance took a big turn last season....and for good reason. I still believe he will be very happy if 2016-2017 is a great season, just like I will be, regardless who the coach is.

We're all big fans here. It's silly to think someone isn't. When you devote a lot of your time and energy to a program, it's easy to get annoyed by people (I know you all saw my outlandish comment to L-T yesterday), but it doesn't mean they aren't a fan.

Fair enough. Not a subject I want to dwell on. I just know I started following this site towards the end of last basketball season and I honestly don't think I've seen one comment of a positive or even hopeful tone regarding any of our programs, players or the University. He's the only poster I've observed that has rooted for us to get left out of the Big 12 expansion from day one and he got himself banned for openly rooting for UT Martin in a thread during that game.

That's troll behavior - not a fan's - even if he was a fan at one point.

I've blocked him. I'll try to refrain from any more comments on the subject.

I've been accused of rooting for losses as well. It comes with the territory. Sometimes, you're so furious about the state of the program, the coach, the administration, etc., and then you're in a dogfight with a cupcake team and you let your emotions get the best of you, and you just blurt out crazy stuff. Been there, done that. I still love the team, the program, the school, and I think NTS does too. I'm not a Cronin fan, but I'll be about 45-60 minutes early to the scrimmage so I can get thru the doors quickly when they open and get good seats near mid-court and I'll still be excited as I was as a 7-year old boy to get my first glimpse of this year's team. I'll also continue to say crazy stuff at times that infuriates the hell out of a lot of you, but I just want to win and have a phenomenal program. Contrary to what a lot of you believe, if Mick is the one who gets us there, I am capable of jumping on his bandwagon.

I know you are. I hate missing the scrimmage this year. Can't wait to hear everyone's thoughts on what they saw afterwards.
