To be honest guys, I am not sure what is about to happen to the site. We have been unsuccessful in our attempts to contact "Bearcat" who runs the site. SWG is missing in action and has bailed for personal reasons which is fine.

I was contacted by SWG about a year ago. I told him he needed to bring over a couple people to be mods. I suggested BCA1 and a couple of others. We started small and have grown slowly but steadily.

I have really enjoyed the site and the mods here have been great. Adrock, BearcatJeff and JasonS have put in a lot of work finding a ton of information and posting it here. I don't think you will find better recruiting news in a free place then here.

I do not know what is going to happen here soon. I do have all the mods numbers and I would like to find a way to keep our group together even if it is not on bearcattalk.com

The question is now where do we go if we are shut down. I will keep everyone updated through our twitter which is bearcattalk_com

I have laughed out louder on numerous occasions from reading this forum and enjoy reading everyone's thoughts on UC sports.

If you don't read bearcatnews and if we get shut down I will say this. If you had fun here and enjoy our site good for you and it was a good run. If you didnt...

It was a good run, and hopefully won't be over anytime soon. I'll never forget what I remember posting.

I had a good time here, and like greatone said lots of laughs. It was neat seeing this site grow and grow. I remember back when I joined the few people around. There have been some solid moments here. Thanks to you and the other mods for working hard at this site, and working hard to keep it together.

As for me, I am disappointed I never got more then one little green dot of reps. If you didn't rep me, look at Greatones picture under his name.

Seriously though, my feelings reflect everyone else's here. I was a frequent reader (not poster) of bearcatnews, and when I found this site I knew I never needed to go back. I'll probably start reading the message boards over there occasionally, but the dumbass quotient is way too high to try to inject intelligent conversation. So, as greatone said, it's been a good run.

Well I will miss it here, please check out http://ohiosportsfans.com as an option, yes it's mostly bengals talk now, but a good site with great guys and gals just like here that we could add a forum or or two to and make it work. I'd have to run it by the owner, but I'm sure he'd be up for it. Mods, drop me a pm there if you are interested. I'm a mod there, my id is ryan the bengal fan.

I think Bearcat is a friend of his that took care of the IT stuff (licensing a domain name, administering vbulletin, etc.). Since swg is out, Bearcat is also looking to get out. The mods are interested in buying the domain name and server space and keeping the site as is, but:

1. We can't get a hold of Bearcat, and
2. We have no idea how to run vbulletin.

I think that's it in a nutshell.

Couldn't we just pitch in for a domain name, find some free forum codes/software (even if it sucks) and start under a new name? I mean hell, it's 2010... The interwebs can't be all that complicated anymore.

You don't have to pay up for a domain name. This one's registered until 11/24/11. I suspect it's the hosting and bandwidth costs that are up for renewal tomorrow(?) that are causing the problem. I can tell where the site is hosted but can't tell when the contract expires. The server is hosted in Chicago which really doesn't matter. You can host it is Abu Dhabi if you wanted.
