Memphis's 2 pt defense was as good as advertised. We shot 28% from inside the arc.

We took about 20 flying uncontrollable leaps at the basket. At least half of those were as good as turnovers. These refs need to be reviewed for player safety issues

Missed 20 layups, literally. 16 turnovers, and had the ball in with 3 minutes left in a 4 point game. Memphis doesn’t scare me at all. Would love to see them on a neutral in the conference tourney.

Forget the turnovers. Our shot selection was awful. Tre took about 8 shots that had little chance to go in. Keith maybe 4 or 5.

I remember one play in the first half where Keith passed up a 3 and passed to Tre who took a long baseline 2. Wtf?? Jarron threw it to Tre late for a 3 when he could have pulled up himself. Vogt forced it into double and triple teams instead of kicking it back out in the first half

Keith and Tre always have 4-5 shots a Game where they are completely out of control. Keith sometimes gets them to fall though. Vogt struggled with their athletes. Our bench didn’t do anything. MAW had to be hurt. He actually looked good. I thought the refs missed about 10 shooting fouls for us. At least. Could have change the game.

That’s pretty much our season. Unless we can rattle off 6-7 straight wins. Not much hope for that

We finished the game scoring .74 ppp lol (and that's including a garbage time 3 from jaevin). But
somehow had a lead in the second, and we're only down 4 with under 4 to go in a game I think we got the short end of the whistle.

I'm pretty sure all of that means our defense gave us every chance to win. We held Memphis to 0.91 which is a pretty solid number and forced a bad shooting team to take almost half of their shots from 3. I'm almost starting to believe our defense is finding it's stride, but we'll see.

The offense is still eww with all the turnovers and that doesn't look too be changing anytime soon. Pretty sure our turnover rate is what it is at this point. Expecting that to get better seems naive.

They were guarding the perimeter all night and not worried about getting beat and funneling all the shots to the rim where they are #1. They weren't calling fouls either making matters worse. I don't like the long and mid range two but I don't mind pulling up just short of the rim protector and hitting a close range bank or floater. Or when the shot blockers come in for the kill dish the ball off to the open guy. MAW had a brilliant assist in the lane and had the sense not to try to get a shot off in the trees. We needed more plays like that.

Instead we had full speed plays to the rim and either clanked it off the rim (because it's VERY difficult to make a full speed layup) or we got stuffed. Then we telegraphed about 4 entry passes...we were late on most of those.

Oh well...it wasn't a good matchup for this team. I hope we can beat them at home with a different strategy.

Our free throw rate was 42.2 OOC good for 9th in the country.

Our free throw rate in conference is 23.8. 12 out of 12.

We've all witnessed many hammerings in conference that just weren't called. The refs must get better.

Tre Scott is rocking out a 78.6 ORTG vs top 100 teams and a 51.2 ORTG vs top 50 teams.

He's shooting 18.8% from the field vs top 50 teams on 32 shots.

The fouls were a big difference in the game. Memphis will always be hard to score on because of size but if they call that game even a little bit tighter, if a different game. They weren’t calling anything for either team. There were times we clearly fouled them and the refs did nothing. Not sure what was going on

If Memphis can foul, they are impossible to score on in the paint. Have to have the refs call something to at least keep them honest

Wasn’t that bad a matchup. Even game before the tech. We also out rebounded them. Home team is supposed to win in even matchups. They got a few big calls. Made a couple more shots. Which home teams tend to do

In all four of our Q1 games so far (OSU, Iowa, Xavier, Memphis), we allowed our opponent to make an early 2nd half run that typically resulted in a significant deficit. In each game (with Xavier being the weakest example) we responded with a run of our own that put us in a position to compete over the last 4-5 minutes and we ultimately couldn't get the buckets or stops needed to even have a chance at pulling these games out.

Some of the guards wings (after putting the ball on the floor) don't know how to drop it off or make the skip pass. They just go for the rack. We needed more guys who could recognize when their first idea isn't going to work.

Jarron can do this. MAW did it once. Tre and Keith go to the rack once their mind is made up they can't seem to use option B (or C) sometimes. They (memphis) were super aggressive sending a couple guys for the block...we need to recognize this.

Tre just might not be able to go to the level of those players. As someone mentioned, he really struggles with better competition. He needs to just stop shooting mid range jumpers. He should either shoot a 3 or layups.

We need a talent upgrade. We all knew that. It’s hard to beat teams like that consistently.

He's at 18% on threes. I don't think he should shoot outside of 8 ft and he needs to slow the F down on offense

Tre just should Not try to score.

He’s a good passer, good defender and a really good rebounder.

The only time he should shoot is if he absolutely has to.

But again.. this system doesn’t really work for Tre offensively

Here is his offensive rating last 3 years:
Freshman: 104.8
Soph: 115.7
JR: 112.8
SR: 96.3

JR & SR usage rate just about the same too

Let’s not Just shit on Tre all the time. He didn’t sign up to play this style of basketball.

He was an efficient offensive player his whole career until the coaching change.

If we’re giving John Brannen Grace then you better give tre some too
