I trust the powers that be at UC to make the right call. I think that now more than ever the University is seeing the value of it's athletic programs and understands the importance of athletic success and the value it can bring to the rest of the institution.
One thing that Whit was brought in for, and one thing he did very well, was fundraising. Hopefully this new AD has a similar track record of success and can find a way to identify with the potential donors here at UC. We really need an AD that can reach out to and win over the corporate community here in Cincinnati.
As for realignment, I'm not sure there's much the AD can do. Those decisions will be made by university presidents, not AD's. We certainly need someone who can sell our value to a conference but I'd expect that anyone qualified to be an AD in major college athletics is qualified to do that.
