I think you're over doing it a bit. But for once I have to agree with you on some of that. I really just don't understand this playing guys because they don't make mistakes thing. It's one thing if you're being overly careless, it's another if you take a bad shot or two, or make a stupid turnover. Sometimes these thing just happen. To me it seems like broome and Washington get this the most. I think it's effects Washington way more than broome. Broome is still gonna come in and do his thing, but just in less minutes which is bad for the team. Washington you can really notice his body language sometimes and I don't know if it's actually being mad at coach or just more of him kicking himself. Either way it gets him out of rhythm and off his game and I think just tenses him up the rest of the game. Look at tonight, he was on from the get, and he made a couple turnovers but by that point he was scoring so effiectly Cronin wasn't going to take him out. Either way, I agree you have to let the best players play, if you wanna prove some points early in the season so be it, but this is already crunch time as far as seeding is concerned and we need to start playing for the future of our season and that means the best guys getting their due minutes

kyle for sure at times seems afraid to make mistakes and broome sometimes looks like that too. thats no way to play any sport. you can't be out there thinking about what you need to do or fearful of a mistake.

broome lets a ball get poked out of bounds, not even a turnover and he gets benched for an entire half? what is that? then i guess mick realized he was wrong so he played broome the entire 2nd half but then that messes with jenifers head.

i dont know what kind of mental gymnastics he's trying to run on them, but i hope he knows his guys really well.

Lol. Hysterical

Vegas is a win some and lose some endeavor. At the end of the day, they didnt miss on UC. They missed on how bad Miss St really is. I’ll eat crow but after seeing them in person, i think we can all agree...Miss St aint no tourney team

On the minutes per game front, last 2 games against X and Fla only 2 starters have seen 30mins +. LET THEM PLAY. Want to see a team gel at the right time in feb/march? Let em play together thru good and bad!

I just don't understand it.. Williams has already made a couple questionable plays and he gets to stay in. You have an elite scorer do you not want him to get better before tourney time

just now reading the thread. I agree. ELITE scorer. Hard to find them.

Ben howland has been a hell of a recruiter for miss state.

Wouldnt be surprised if they were dropping bags to make it happen

Dan Hoard said he went to 3 straight FF at UCLA, then a few years later, fired (the same year they won the PAC 10, but lost early in tourney). Man, what I would do for a FF.

Yeah I would say pretending to know what he is thinking is a reach. You don't know he will react. I'm confused as anyone why he isn't playing more but I'm not gonna pretend to know what he is thinking based of nothing, he hasn't looked frustrated or shown any signs of what you're saying, so again, yes a reach.

I agree he doesn't look frustrated, but he was 8th leading scorer in the country. I am sure he expected to play more than this.

We played outstanding defense tonight. 11 blocks on a pretty athletic team. Really need some consistency from the arc to be the kind of team we all want. UCLA isn't going to let Kyle shoot his little hook without doubling him. Cumberland really has to step up.

My man JEIII was leading the team in blocks, I believe. Love him!!

65 pts against a Miss St team that stinks. We should/could have won by 20+.

Whats holding this team back? Substitution patterns. Whos responsible for that? HEAD COACH

This has been a trend ever since Cronin has arrived. Watch his sideline antics. Always pulling players, subbing new ones in, giving players earfuls over a simple MISTAKE. Let your best players PLAY. Play through mistakes and difficulties. You will see triumphs as a result. Starters get 28+ mins per game. Everyone else, filler time.

Cronin’s napoleonic complex rubs off on players. Watch their body language. From time to time they just think, F this guy.

UCLA WILL WAX US. Beer on me if we win that game

I still think he is the right person for the job, but he definitely is hard to figure out. On one hand he says players make coaches, and good shooting makes a coach look good (paraphrase), but on the other hand, he tries to be too cute. He is coaching sooo tight as if he doesn't get in the tourney he will be fired. Dude, coach like you know you are in, and you get a $50M bonus for the E-8 or FF. Coach to get the players to their ceilings (like Jacob said). Prepare the players for a deep run (play best players, define roles, get bench guys ready). Tiger used to play like this - to try to win, even if behind. Billy Donavan had a really nice quote about this, I dont remember exactly, but basically, that he coaches to get them a title (or FF?) and does not mind if they miss the tourney.

Substitution patterns, is not Micks strength, but D is. We will need to ride that, plus individual players to E-8 at least I hope. Then that will get us even better players.

Mick had Jenifer at the scorer's table in the 2nd half and then sent him back to the bench after Cane had a steal and assist. The sub patterns where he take Kyle, gary and Jarron off the court at the same time are head scratching. He had one scorer in, Evans, and MSU went on a quick 4-0 run before putting JC back in. He did this last year as well, why does he take out KW and Clark at the same time. One of those 2 should be on the court at all times along with one of JC and JEIII

Not trying to derail this thread, but the former coach at UC DID THE EXACT SAME THING. I am not saying I agree or disagree, just stating a fact, this is not new behavior for UC Head coaches

He played head games, no doubt. He would tear the player all the way down, then build them back up. In the end, the players LOVED HIM (if they made it through).

He had favorites, but always played the best players. He seemed to be awesome at substitution patterns. Also had an avg O.

& the “good” call would have been...?

Play at Us Bank. The arena isn;t great but it has plenty of parking a a ton of entertainment options for before and after the game. And 20 minutes closer for the majority of fans that attend Bearcat basketball games.

Now - cost is obviously a factor...but I don't know what the cost delta was, and I also don;t know how hard it was to negotiate with US Bank.

But strictly basing this on fan experience, NKU is an awful choice. Poor traffic flow in...and out. Nothing near the stadium, might as well be in the middle of a cornfield. I've been going to games for a decent amount of time now (23 years total, 16 year season ticket holder) and this is the first time I actually start to dread all the nonsense around getting to and from the game. It's an awful experience.

Can't wait to be home again next year.

Bet that is where he learned it from.

Yes I am sure he did. But you have to have guys on the bench that can play to do it. Right now, after a promising start against the scrubs, many of the bench players aren't showing that they can handle the game at the higher level. Still hopeful some will come around, it's a long season.

they showed promise because the level of competition they were playing. This is why people need to relax when saying how good this freshman class is when playing those terrible teams. You can't tell anything until they play real teams.
