Monte Taylor, DL: Another position that lost a lot of talent was the defensive line, where Connor Barwin, Terrell Byrd and others moved on. Taylor comes in from junior college with a reported 4.5 second time in the 40-yard dash. At 6-foot-5 and 245 pounds, he might need to put on some pounds to compete at this level, but his athleticism could come in handy in the new 3-4 defensive scheme.

vhAzetHeBoSS Contgrats to My bro Monte Taylor officially Cleared to Play for the Cincinnati Bearcats what a great addition to our D- Line..

Hell Yeah!!!!! Best news I've heard all day. I have absolutely no idea if this guy can even walk and chew gum at the same time but we need pass rushing DEs badly. Apparently this guy is a physical specimen and I'm excited to see what he can do. I feel like I've been asking on every Cincinnati board for a year what this guy's status was.

It's great news, and I couldn't wait to post it. Way to go VHaz!

I don't normally stalk the players Twitter, but I was interested in whether this is Monte Taylor story is legit. At the same time Hazelton posted his tweet about, he tweeted the following to Wesley Richardson:

@vhAzetHeBoSS beasty! thats wutsup! tell him i said bout time! lol

Obviously the guys have been waiting on edge as we have for this guy to become eligible. This guy must be pretty darn good if they are so excited.

Well, if I wasn't running this site I wouldn't stalk either. However, info from players are what fans want.

this kid is an out of this world ath 6'6 260 and was blazing wen i seen him running, and a very hard worker i go for am runs all the time i seen him at like 4 am running laps and working on rush moves, talk to him for a quick sec, and could tell he's very well rounded and knows a lot about life, looks like the bearcats have a first round top ten pick on there hands.....let's go cats

Are either Monte or Jamar still on the team? This link is from Jluy of last year in a preview of what became our undefeated season.

yeah both are on the team. Jamar is hurt though. I heard he may redshirt with our depth at WR.

Monte is now eligable and I have heard he has 2 years of PT

Wow! Your post makes Taylor sound like the next coming of Pierre-Paul from South Florida. As someone else pointed out, I am just hoping the kid adds depth to our defensive line. If he is half the athlete you mention, that should not be a probelm.

It sounds like Walter Stewart really impressed the staff over the spring with his ability to rush the passer. He's still a little on the light side and if Taylor turns out to be a player, I think Stewart could be best suited at OLB. We definitely need depth at DE and and if nothing else having Taylor to spell Giordano/Stewart at times would be an enormous help.

And I will say that I've heard over the last year some very similar comments to 1bearcat's about Taylor being a physical speciman. All the top ten pick stuff is obviously way premature but from the people who saw some workouts last year they all marveled at Taylor's physical abilities.

The front seven is being hit hard. BJ is certainly making it his number one focus (seemingly). Ben Russell and Dukes could get offers soon, and I do think UC is getting some interest from DT/DE that are looking more like plan b types from other schools around the country.
Essentially, things are just starting to get interesting for UC football recruiting.

Thats the news I like to hear.

This is great news!!! I have been talking and asking about this guy since last year. From what I heard he is a stud...that is why schools like Tennessee, Arizona,, etc. went after him out of JC. He supposedly is a specimen and someone who can run, be physical and make plays. This what I feel this D needs, someone who can be a difference maker on the D-line (end), and yes, he has to be able to play at or around the 260-275 or better mark and keep the speed. Yes, as others have mentioned, depth is a huge concern so I hope he adds depth and gives us another playmaker off the edge. This defense needs to be more aggressive and physical, adopting the pin your ears back and attack them style defense that we have been lacking (last year)...bend but don't break obviously worked for us most of last year, but when we go up against teams like Florida, they were just more aggressive and physical than us. This year if our D can improve from last years, I feel our offense may be even better, therefore it could be another great year for UC football...fingers crossed!

Is it just me or is everyone else getting excited for FB season to kick off and our Bearcats to win another BEast title!?!?

Go Cats!!

lol mother, thats funny...him and walter pass rushing will create a lot of one on one blocking, and with his size fram and speed top pick is all over the kid

Former Notre Dame quarterback Demetrius Jones is no longer part of the UC football program, UC coach Butch Jones said today.

“I would just say that we have certain expectations that we live by,” Butch Jones said. “It starts with academics and going to class. The only thing I’ll say is that he’s made a decision and he’s moving on. I wish him the best in his endeavors.”

Demetrius Jones transferred to UC in 2007 after starting that season’s opener at quarterback for the Irish against Georgia Tech. He was switched to linebacker last year and played in 10 games. He made 36 tackles, 21 solo, and had five tackles for loss for 10 yards. He also intercepted one pass.

does anyone know what happen to d.jones we need him at backer?

He was ok at LB but it's not like he was an all American. Since we have switched back to the 4-3 we will be fine at LB. We won't need nearly as many as in a 3-4 and more importantly with JK and Walter solidified, there is only one more spot open. I doubt Demetrius Jones would have won that starting spot.
