Name the new conference

And when exactly is Mick Cronin becoming the head coach at North Carolina State?

Wrong again. Mick Cronin is NOT leaving uc for nc state. No conversations have been had this year at all.

Gottfried has a great recruiting class and things are looking up for that program

Mick, ignore this one. You had no involvement in it whatsoever. Unless of course your Ralph because he had 3 IDs on BCN before we booted them all.

Well I like America 12. Kinda of fitting. It is what it is till it changes. Let's dominate the conference if we're going to play in it. At least the new start gives them the ability to mold it in some ways how they want. The basketball side won't be bad. It'll be similiar to CUSA with good teams at the top and a weak bottom. Larry Brown is bringing good players to SMU. UConn and Memphis are known commodities and Temple is solid. Add in UC and you have a league with a pretty nice upper half. Like I said it is what it is. Let's make the best of it.

You are out of the loop on this one. At the end of the 2011 season, after UC beat Missouri in the NCAA Tourney and lost to UConn in round 2, Lobot was all over the internet and texting and tweeting UC players that Mick was the new coach of NC State.

I like the America 12 name also. UC fans need to embrace the new conference. With UC, UConn, Memphis, and Temple it is going to be a great one basketball wise.

I like the membership just not into the name. If VCU is looking for a home to I wouldn't mind them getting an invite for basketball.

If you do not play FBS football you are not going to get in. Been there, done that.

I here you. football versus the non-football schools caused a rift in what used to be the Big East. Just wishful thinking for another good basketball matchup.

The things about naming a new conference is basically no matter what you pick, people aren't going to like it. How about the first team that put "Big" in front of a number? I would imagine it was not that popular. So if you don't like this name, what is better? Add a couple teams and become the Big 14? How about the Legends and Leaders? There's just no right answer. And at the end of the day, what's in a name? Hopefully in a couple years we won't have to worry about anything regarding this conference and it will be a thing of the past.

I guess at least something is set and stone now. They better be ready to schedule a doozie of an OOC schedule. Other than UL, we really should run away with this conference next year, even with losing a bunch of guys.

The conference schedule will be tough enough. You will not see a huge upgrade in the OOC above what it was this year, Oregon, Iowa State, New Mexico, Alabama. UC cannot afford to give away home games, especially now that TV revenue is going down $2 million to $3 million a year.

As a solid program, we will still get in early season tournaments like the Jimmy V Classic. We will still have random opponents like New Mexico mixed in along with Xavier. The OOC will always be weak. Hell, this year was considered solid and the OOC SOS is ranked 172. But until we get in a new conference, we will just have to take care of business against lesser opponents.

That fact that we'll now be one of the 2 or 3 best choices for a spot in an early season tournament from our conference is actually a positive in this whole mess. The OOC SOS is still low because of 5 games against RPI 250+ (3 are 300+). We just don't have the budget to pay the buy game prices for the teams that are going to finish in the 100's. Those teams have realized how vital they are to the RPI and SOS that they have drastically increased their asking price over the last few years.

UConn should be good and Memphis has the #2 rated recruiting class (according to ESPN) coming in. The top half of the league won't be bad.

I didn't believe it till I looked, WOW Memphis has a heck of a class coming in. That's nice to see. Wonder if their coach is pulling strings like Calipari did? Haha

I don't know how Memphis does it either. It's nice to see a team recruit like that without being able to fall back on being in a power conference. The Cats are going to need to do that. On the other side of the spectrum a school like Xavier is probably overestimating the impact on recruiting that going to a new conference will have.

Pastner can recruit, but he's had mixed results as a coach. He's now in his 4th year and he's yet to win a tournament game and even more alarming his teams are 0-13 against ranked opponents.
