I like it. We haven't received much national attention this year, so I'm glad people who didn't give us a single Top 25 vote for 2/3 of the season are starting to respect what we're building towards (not just in this exercise but in general). I'm excited to see if we have an extra gear down the stretch. This team doesn't really have a ceiling. Our shortcomings are mostly self inflicted.

I don't really get how we're are rated on this and getting votes on the top 25 it doesn't feel like we are that good. Even when we beat Smu they outplayed us we just shot 60% from three that night and got a tad lucky. Idk maybe it's just me I think we are going to make the tourney but I'd be shocked if we got into the round of 32

Maybe we're just a better shooting team than years past? I heard our team FG% is the highest it's been in like 10 years (if the season were to end today). Think you're being a little pessimistic.

Thanks for this thread. Very interesting.

Once we play X, our NCSOS will be well within the top 25. You can see they have it 26 on our card now. That is something they have hammered home again and again and the committee has largely followed through. Credit to our athletic department for getting on board and THANK YOU to VCU/SDST and others for getting series put together quickly to help the schedules.

Also, 4-3 against the top 50 is really good for a bubble team.

Who gives a shit if "they outplayed us"? When the horn sounded our team was on top and that is all that matters. Im starting to get annoyed with the people complaining about how we win. If you want to see pretty basketball go be a Xavier fan. They score a ton of points and "look" good. Yet the last three years they have missed the tourney, lost in the play in game, and will be on the bubble this year. We will have made our 5th straight tournament and will have done it in a rebuilding year. Also how do you not get how we are rated? 4 top 50 wins (Some teams wish they had 1), Top 50 SOS (26th out of conference which is extremely important to the committee), Only one bad loss and it was on the road. We arent Duke or Kentucky but as inconsistent as this team may have been they have put together a really solid resume up to this point.

SOS seems to be getting more emphasis in both college basketball and football. If you look at our conference, Cincinnati, SMU, Temple, UConn, and Memphis all played difficult non-conference schedules. The rest of the league is laughable. That's why we have teams ranked in the 200's in RPI.

I think the AAC should start putting mandates on non-conference scheduling because weak scheduling really hurts our conference.

Winning and playing pretty? Mutually exclusive?

No of course they are not mutually exclusive. However playing pretty wont give you consistency. The offense has improved this year and the defense again is one of the most efficient in the country. In a rebuilding year in the middle of February we are a projected 7th seed. That doesnt happen if you dont have a culture and an identity. It would be great if we had 4 all americans that could make shots from all over the court. But we dont. So you have to give yourself a chance to win. Also one of the big reasons we dont score many points is because of our defense. Every possession the shot clock runs down to 10 and under because we dont allow teams to get to their options. Which means less possessions in the game which means less chances to score. Defense travels. It's a lazy argument.

Serious question...how much college bball do you watch? BC there are about 8 good teams this year. Teams 9-40 are flawed. I mean, Northern Iowa is #13 in the polls.

You can get a feel for the important criteria in this picture. Shows what they display for each team:

Great find! It's a good insight into the process. I though it was funny that the comment from the twitter page was how "crazy" the technology they have for the selection process. They could have the most advanced software available but if they still keep plugging the outdated RPI numbers into it, it's just more of the same crap.

Here is the mock selection seeded 1-68. I believe they are in the "scrubbing process" now.

Observations:
*3 AAC teams in: #27 Cincinnati, #31 SMU, #37 Temple
*Our OOC opponents: #28 VCU, #32 San Diego State, #33 Xavier, #35 Ole Miss, #55 NC Central, and #66 Eastern Illinois (for some reason projected to win the OVC over 22-4 Murray State). That is solid scheduling by Mick.

Cincinnati [17-7 (8-4), RPI: 31, SOS: 41] The Bearcats were already in pretty strong position before last week's road win at SMU, which completed a home-road sweep of Larry Brown's club. With a home win over San Diego State on Dec. 17, that's three top-25(-ish) wins in total. A visit from South Florida on Feb. 7 made for a tricky afternoon, but Cincy held on 63-58. The Bearcats' loss at Temple helps the Owls much more than it hurts Cincy. The Bearcats have four losses to teams ranked outside the RPI top 80, including a really ugly loss at East Carolina, and there are four RPI landmines left on the schedule (Tulane, at Houston, UCF, at Tulane). But it would take a pretty gnarly string of defeats to put a team with these kinds of numbers and wins at serious risk of missing the Dance.

Yah I guess I am being pessimistic. It just seems like we have a lower ceiling than years past.

I do think it'd be tough for this team to make a serious run, as we're very young and still learning. The good thing is, given the lack of seniors, the ceiling extends to next year.
