Good to see teams like FLA, Houston, and Buffalo advancing. Especially Buffalo putting an ass whooping on Zona. Buffalo was on fire but they also had a great game plan on D and they really got after it.

Every team we have played won in the first round. Only 2 left (I think X and WSU) and I wouldn't mind seeing one of them lose...lol!
Buffalo kept attacking. That was the impressive part. I think there was one time where they should have pulled it out and ran a little bit of clock. But they kept attacking. I don't think we would have done that in the same situation. You have to run clock /play smart, but you have to keep attacking if there is 4-5 min left.

Odds are zero since we would meet them in the Final 4...haha

But that would be fun too!!

Oh, yeah....I was thinking we were on opposite sides
Beating them in final 4 would be just as good....better maybe - then they could sit home & watch us on tv

Bill Self's performance against seed expectations is #291 out of 294 coaches since 2004. He's only made nine sweet sixteens despite being a 4 seed or better in each of those 14 seasons, including ten with a 2 seed or better. He's only made two final fours despite getting seven 1 seeds.

Thank you Mr Stats (and I mean that in a good way) you must have so many sites at your finger tips. I was trying to compile a record compared to his seeds myself, obviously could have never compared them to every one else but... I was thinking along the same lines as you, he has good teams and gets great seeds, so of course he wins sometimes.

Only 9 Sweet 16s since 2004?!?! What a bum!

I think it's easy to forget sometimes just because a team plays well against The best teams in their conference, doesn't mean they will against outside competition. Easy to forget how well you learn a team. Such as Michigan last night, they really looked bad for most of the second half (I didn't see the first) but they dominated in the Big Ten tourney. Providence has looked very average against a mediocre Texas AM despite beating Xavier and taking Villanova to overtime. I myself got a little wrapped up in their hype, even though they were both pretty average the entire season.

The question is whether Sean Miller is a worse NCAA tournament coach than Bill Self. I think the best way to measure that is performance against seed expectation. Using that criteria, Self is ranked #291 in his time at Kansas. Sean Miller is #11 in the same time period (not including this year). He has seven sweet sixteens and four elite eights despite only getting a single 1 seed and just a couple of 2 seeds.

Let's not just completely ignore the championship and title game appearance and punish Self for getting such good seeds.

This isn't even a conversation until Sean Miller at minimum makes a Final 4. You are overthinking this. Miller's tournament resume does not stack up. You can analyze it to death all you want, but the accomplishments just aren't there compared to Self.

I think if you're going to analyze whether he is a good "NCAA tournament" coach, you have to handicap him for the seed he gets. No one is saying his teams are bad. Just that he underperforms in the tournament.

The rankings take every game into account. Nothing is ignored.
