Help Support BearcatTalk:

I pointed it out as part of a pattern of unchecked aggression. A single sentence, post, or poster would not be an issue. There were 9 consecutive posts by 4 different posters showing the same sentiment, with quite a few aggressive comments mixed in. So I stepped in to say something. Your specific comment is a tree, not the forest.

there are just as many "don't blame mick" people, who I assume I can refer to as the "don't blame mick" group-thinkers.

you really think jake saying "you are in fantasy land" is that aggressive? come on man, we are all adults. just because 4 posters agree on an issue doesn't suddenly make it a conspiracy of leftist group think!!! oh my! (sorry if that came across as aggressive)

I think your label of group think towards me was aggressive.

I think there is "blame Mick" groupthink in this thread. I gave a few examples to support my contention, same as everyone else has been doing. What do you want me to do, publish a report analyzing every single sentence that has been posted?

"First off Jon, I would really like to commend you on your loyalty to the program and to Mick. I have to assume, based on your undying allegiance to him, that you have a personal connection to the Cronnin family....and loyal friends are worth their weight in gold."
I think it's a real stretch to interpret this as anything other than a belligerent backhanded compliment. To view it as a sincere commendation is absurd in my view. I'm aware that other points were made, but absolutely no pushback to the quoted section was posted. I think that's problematic, so shame on me for pointing that out I guess.

I did not neglect 99% of your posts, Jacob. I chose to post two sentences, but I don't consider them misleading. I think you have been unnecessarily attacking Garrad and Jon with all of your posts directed at them in this thread. The two I quoted are not out of character.

All I'm asking for is that posters acknowledge that this is all subjective, and differing opinions are valid. We don't have to draw a line in the sand. Aggressiveness isn't helpful. I'm probably being too aggressive myself in pointing it out.

I hear you.

I do think it's a given that these are personal opinions. And admittedly some more baseless than others. As long as we have passionate fans (a good thing), dust ups are going to happen. I'd like to say I'm above it...but I'm not.

The group think thing is pretty weird. It's a message board. Pretty sure you will find a group agreeing on both sides of almost every issue.

Not sure how you can read through though and only attempt to hold a couple people accountable. It's a 2 way street. At some point, I get tired of being mocked for my opinion by people who never share their own or contribute anything to the site (generally speaking...and specifically talking in this case about Garybearcat).

Granted.

I'm not worried about people's feelings being hurt. I'm worried about the conversation degrading into something that is no longer productive, rational, or worth reading. But now that is definitely the case, which is at least 95% my fault.

Stop!! LOL!

What happened to what we were talking about? I don't care about your other excuses? Can you not apologize first before you go on about other bullshit? Don't lump me in with anyone else so you can make a bullshit point that I was not even involved with.

I agree, which is why I didn't name anyone in my first post. As I said, I was really put off by those 9 straight posts I read. I especially thought Garrad was being thoughtful, and was being thrown under the bus for no good reason.

Groupthink isn't meant to be an insult. Everyone does it, it's a very prevalent psychological phenomenon. It can be helpful to acknowledge it though when it starts to push the conversation off the rails. I should have used a much less accusatory tone, but I was pretty frustrated.

I'm confused. My point hasn't changed one bit from the very start. I'm not attacking you personally.

It happens to all of us. And I can understand it from your end here.

LOL! I'm not an idiot.

A poster accused Jon of having "a personal connection to the Cronin family." That accusation was met with "This is a very good post!"

You totally took this comment out of context and you still are trying to skirt around the issue in any way you can.

I have since told you...I am going to hold you to the same standard of ALWAYS addressing EVERY point in EVERY post. Can you do that? Are you willing? Do you think this is a stupid idea?

Waterhead, I tried to address your point by saying you're missing the forest for the trees. The tree here is that you had a chance to push back against one of many belligerent posts but chose not to. It's a small point that's pretty insignificant. Put together with all of the others, I became frustrated. If you want to hold me to a standard, that's your prerogative.

Bullshit!! You asked me to push back against the ONE SINGLE point that YOU wanted me to. Excuse me for not being your lackey...
