I thought I would take a look at the plus/minus numbers for the players when they are on the court (points gained or lost to the other team while they played). Some of these numbers will be slightly skewed but most of them make sense to me other than a couple. The top 4 make sense to me although I might not have guessed the order right.

Caupain...+105
Ellis...+84
Cobb...+65
Clark...+59

Moore...+49 (this ought to get some heated discussion going)
Thomas...+40
Sanders...+33
KJ...+11
Morman...+11
Debarry...-7 (I would not have guessed this one)

Thoughts???

Although I don't think DeBerry is a bad defender, maybe this shows just how important the defense of Octavious Ellis is. Having a legit rim protector will save your team 5+ points per game.

Doing some math of - per minute what are they +/-

Caupain .27
Ellis .22
Cobb .21
Clark .17

Moore .39
Thomas .13
Sanders .13
KJ .04
Morman .09
Debarry -.05

Seems clear to me KJ getting too many minutes!

I thought Clark would be higher. I thought Ellis would be first. I think Quadri benefits from the Wagner game and getting minutes when we're going up big on bad teams. DeBerry on the other hand has to get his minutes when we're in tough games and like Robert said, he is usually in the game without Ellis protecting the rim. I hope Quadri and Morman get nice minutes tomorrow.

I agree with you on Ellis and Clark. In regards to Moore you should see the chart. He did benefit from Wagner...but who didn't. Also in his garbage time in the last 5 minutes of games he is on the negative side NOT the positive so his numbers take a hit for being in late...probably due to the opposition scoring a few late desperation points. In the last 8 minutes of games he is negative 11.

Here is Moore's chart and you can find other players here if you want

While throwing out some advanced stats such as this - below is what Sports-reference has in regards to win shares:

Ellis 2.1
Clark 1.9
Caupain 1.6
Cobb 1.4
Sanders .9
Deberry .6
Shaq .5
KJ .4
Moore .4
Morman .3

Care to tell us what a "win share" is?

Thanks for the #s. I don't dive into that stuff as much as I used to. I have been a Quadri fan and in our conference I think we'll run into several teams with poor offensive bigs, so his defense won't get too exploited. Hopefully we can get him on the floor a little more.

I'm not lobbying for more minutes...I just don't understand why his numbers are so good. He does very little on D and it's not like he's an offensive juggernaut.

It's definitely interesting. I would have guessed DeBerry's numbers would be better than Moore...not the other way around.

Of course it matters who they play their minutes with...but it's not like Moore is playing with the first team a lot. Coincidence? I don't know...13 games is a lot.

I went back to check stats for Guyn and Caupain last year in terms of plus/minus when they were on the court since they played a similar amount of minutes.

Caupain was +177
Guyn was +57

Just as a reference I think SK was around +250 and JJ like +190 and Rubles like +165 (from memory)

That is a pretty big difference between PG's. Troy may not be a flashy point scorer but obviously he has a big impact on the game
