Rashad Bishop Still Not a Part of the Team

bishop

I think Parker deserves a starting spot and you know that Cronin likes to start guys who have played college ball already. So i think the starting lineup goes like this
pg- Cash Wright
sg- jaquon parker
sf- rashad bishop
pf-Ibrahima Thomas
c-yancey Gates

Without Bishop this team is on paper the worst team since Mick first year..

I don't think he survives after this year without some major luck.. Sad.

I disagree. This team is not as bad as you want to make them out to be. They won't win a Big East title or anything like that, but I could see the Bearcats making the NCAA tourney this year. Bishop will be back on the team barring something unforseen.

I disagree completely. This team has talent and potential. Mick's first team was made up of gap-fillers minus Vaughn. If this team can gel together, this team could make a run at the tourney. I think the style of play will be a major factor as well.

While I think I fall somewhere in the middle between the two arguments simply making a run at the tourney is not enough this season... I've been such an avid Mick supporter all the way through his tenure here, but he HAS to deliver this year... are circumstances ideal?... No. But that is no longer an excuse. This program is no longer sitting in the position it was four years ago... we have Mick to thank for that, but as well, he needs to deliver and take this program to the next level this coming year...

I'm on record saying this team will perform better than many think. I truly believe that will be the case. My primary concern is frontcourt depth.

I'm on record saying the same thing so I'll guess we'll sink or swim together. My main concern is the PG and PF spots. Primarily, what happens if Cash gets hurt and secondly what happens if/when Gates doesn't step up. Those two positions seem to only have one player who can truly play the role as we need it played. Yeah Parker is listed as a pg, but I still think everything I've seen from him points to him being a shooting guard. I don't think he has the handles to run the point full time in the Big East. And Wilks and Jackson aren't going to bang with the big boys. Hopefully Thomas added some muscle this offseason, he could fill that role if necessary, especially in an uptempo style.

Put me on the same boat. If it goes down, I am going down with the ship too. I am not as worried about PG as I am the overall shooting of this team from the outside. I think this team will struggle if something happens to Cash but I think Parker could pick up the slack. We just need more consistent shooting from outside of 15 feet. My other concern is front court depth because after Gates and Thomas, there is little to no experience. I am not convinced Biggie can give us quality minutes and Wilks is a twig so he will not be a lot of help down low in Big East play.

I think you need to be able to shoot the 3 consistently, but don't need to shoot a ton of them to win. This team needs to attack and find a mid-range game. Last season showed they die by the 3.

With solid pg play you get more open looks and thus take much smarter shots, get better looks at threes, get some easy baskets off nice passes. That is why I'm so concerned if Cash goes down. I think Cash, especially with this team around him, is the only one that can make this offense run efficiently. We've seen what this team looked like with Cash not running the point. And of course that assumes Cash will step up and do this. I just don't see how this team can be successful if Cash is not the pg we hope he can be. If Parker is the pg I think we'll see much more standing around and passing around the perimeter and taking contested jump shots and forcing threes.

If I can point to 3 things that I think will make or break the season.

1) Frountcourt Depth - I believe that Gates and thomas will be a nice combo. I think Thomas will be measurably better than last season and he plays hard. Gates has to eliminate the stupid fouls away from the basketball and play with consistent effort. Wilks will create some match up problems at the 4 and needs to use his athleticism to rebound. the key will be is Biggie, Gaines, or Jackson can give you some defense, rebounding, and garbage points.

2) PG Play - Cash is another player I believe will be measurably better if healthy. He can get to the rim, and I think with another season of strength training under his belt, he will finish better. For this team to be what I think they can, he has to play.

3) Team Chemistry - One thing recruits mention is that all the UC players get along well. This needs to translate unto the court. Not only in terms of cohesiveness, but also in terms of having a leader on the team that will lead and the others will follow.

I agree with all three of these. And honestly #3 might be the biggest key. A team that plays well together can make up for deficiencies at one position or another.

Front court depth is going to be a huge issue this year. You have Thomas and Gates and then perhaps no one else. Jackson is still too raw although he might be able to play because of his hustle and athleticism. McClain and Gaines probably won't ever see the floor and if they do it's because UC is either blowing the team out or are in serious trouble. Wilks getting serious minutes is another sign of trouble, unless he vastly improved over the off-season.

I agree here and think Cash will be much better this year. If not, then they will struggle mightily. You could tell he wasn't 100% mentally last year and he physically wore down as the season went on.

We've been hearing this from day 1 but there has always been problems with the team. Frankly, I no longer care if the players like each other as long as they want to win bad enough. When I played it didn't matter if I hated my teammates guts, I knew we all wanted to win and that's all that mattered. Larry Davis and Wilks seem like great guys off the court, unfortunately that doesn't matter when the game starts.

As long as the ball goes in the basket we will be fine, imagine that last yr UC was a good three point team and a good free throw team, I dont think there would of been that many teams in the nation that could of played with us and I really believe that!! All they have to do is put the ball in the basket, defensively they are solid, rebounding wise we are top ten in the country, and with the size that we can put on the floor we should be able to block shots and alter alot more. UC can get it done the only thing people are really scared of is they dont have any guys that are proven players. We all know that Gates could be a sure fire top 25 pick if he tries and does not get into silly foul trouble. Thomas was the most improved and with a little bit more fire under him because he is a senior the light might be coming on for him. Rashad Bishop was thought to be a bust or a studd coming out of highschool we can agree its been more bust but he is a solid guy that could go off for 20 on a given night. As for the guards i think by the time Parker is a senior he will be considered one of the best in the big east ( remember he could of played high school ball last yr.) Cash i dont think will ever be a real point guard even though he might bring the ball up the court he is a natural scorer who i think could be lethal when he plays off the ball more. As for Kilpatrick this guy has some serious offense. Im not worried about that its his defense he will struggle with. The talent is there but is the chemistry, i think this team will suprise some people and make it to the tournament.

It was a no brainer. Especially with him practicing. Rashad will help the team this year. He has the ability to pick up some of the scoring load when he is agressive. If nothing else, he plays good D and rebounds.
