-Dan is either hurt or checked out. Beyond Pathetic effort last two games and if he starts Sunday Wes isn’t even running the show anymore. Aziz plays hard but is the worst offensive player I’ve seen wear a bearcat uniform. I don’t see the defensive hype Mitchell gets. Man on man he gets bodied Everytime. Send a message and sit your 2 plus mil in wasted NIL on the bench.
-See what rayvonn can do in extended minutes, give Paige extended minutes, let betsey play extended, reed doesn’t offer much at all but plays hard and smart so reward that. And see if jizzle can figure it out in 35 minutes of pt. As far as I’m concerned it’s open tryouts next year for who wants to be brought back. Make Dan, Dillon, and Simas sit and earn minutes off the bench especially Dan.
 
Interesting fact Dillon Mitchell, Dan Skillings, Simas, and Aziz are all averaging less rebounds a game this year than last year. We are a soft team….
 
Second fact: UC does not have one player averaging 30 or minutes a game. Our top minutes player is simas at 28.1 mpg.

Look up any top 25 team and I’d bet all have at MINIMUM one player over 30. Quick glance across town and they have 3 guys over 30 mpg with their pg getting 33 minutes a game and yes they are playing better ball than us right now.

Point being Wes’ awful substitution patterns where he seemingly pulls any player with the hot hand and never lets guys fully take over has prevented this team from getting any true alpha and now no one knows who to turn to now in big games. Awful coaching from Wes trying to prove depth which we don’t have.

Bring out NIT jizzle and let him play the entire game and See if he can be that alpha going forward. Day day plays still just in cj and Hickman minutes at the two guard along side jizzle.
 
Substitutions seem to be pre set, regardless of how the game plays out. If Jizzle hits 3 straight and it's his pre set time to get subbed, he comes out. Coaches need to coach based on how the game plays out. CJ getting minutes and NO shots is just not a good decision. Sub with a purpose.
 
Also, players need to get into the feel of a game. Maybe more minutes for those hustling will bring better results.
Not much left to do this year. Now a coach can earn his salary by making changes.
 
Touched base with a few friends in the athletic department trying to pry about skillings knee. They were pretty clear that from what they’ve heard his knee is not an issue. Surprised me honestly with his play. So the question is what’s up??
 
I do not believe he’s used well. He is not a good shooter And plays along side Dillon and aziz (awful shooters) making it easy to guard him by packing the paint. Looking at our starting five you have to scratch your head with Wes’ game plan. Individually talented players but I’d say 4 of the 5 starters are bad three point shooters.

We needed shooters and Hickman was a swing and miss, clearly CJ needs to just call it a career, and betsey isn’t really ready for the big 12 it seems. So Sunday West Virginias scouting report will simply say do not let simas shoot and that’s it we have zero other threats. Easiest game plan
 
If I am coach of West Virginia....play a zone. Make UC hit some shots.
Side note, I really would like to see what Ravon can do given 20-25 minutes. Why can this guy not get in the court? I do not see practices....maybe he is not good?

It cant hurt to see what he has. Best case he provides a spark and some energy worst case he can’t play much worse than skillings the past 3 games.

honestly he plays hard but how does Josh reed play over him? Reeds talent is extremely limited.

Agreed, I’m not sure what reed brings. Maybe defensive scheme knowledge but a huge liability on offense.

I think CJ might if there were any designs to get him some open looks. The problem is we have so many players that are one dimensional it’s to easy for opponents defense. But I agree, we can’t have that many players that wouldn’t see the court for good teams.
 
Bcat - CJ just looks out of place. Looking at him it is hard to believe he was once a big scoring threat
And, he is not the future....would rather see Ravon or Betsy get rolling

I agree, it was more highlighting I thought he was capable but the offense doesn’t help any of the players. I’m all for giving the young guys high minutes. Ray, Betsy, page, etc…
 
Let Betsy and Ravon play 25 minutes each the rest of the way, just to see what you have. Wes better start to look at the portal as this may need to be a big overhaul into next season

I think we are going to see a mass exodus into the portal. Probably have an all new team next year. These guys have to see that they haven’t developed here.
 
Something does not add up with this team, especially as poor as they played against WV. Seems as though some of the players (Jizzle, Skillings) checked out. Do they already have NIL deals elsewhere and just want this season to end?? Not fair to say but does make you wander.
And given the landscape of NIL - what does Wes do? Not saying he has coached great....but what do you do? Your best players, the ones that can help you win (most important for Wes) are the ones dogging it. So you bench them - but Wes knows he needs wins.
This whole NIL is weird. I'm for the players getting paid, but lets post who gets what and let everyone see what the deals are, and maybe there do need to be some rules.
In the Huggs/Mick era - the coaches could hold playing time over the players to somewhat demand they listen and give it 120% every time they are on the court. Now?? But Wes needs to figure it out. Other coaches have.....
