Heard today from someone that Robert Upshaw has moved onto Mick's radar. Apparently he's a 7 foot center out of Frenso who was committed to play for Frank Martin at KSU. He chose KSU over G'Town and Louisville but apparently Mick has been all over him since Monday.

I have no idea how legit this rumor is and I had no idea who Robert Upshaw was before my buddy told me about this. I don't really follow the recruiting too close but I figured it's worthy message board material.

I'll hold my excitement this is more solid, but if it worked out, it would be big time. 7'0" 250+lbs ranked top 50 overall and top 10 center by some sites. When Georgetown and Louisville offer a kid, its usually a good sign.

He signed an athletic aid agreement with KSU so he was never bound. His Mother was worried about him being from California and the change of the midwest culture. She wanted him free to leave if he wasn't happy.

I looked this kid up earlier and ESPN has him rated lower than Obekpa, they're both listed as 5's on ESPN's site. So I wonder if this kid is ranked high because he can ball or if he's only ranked on the list because he's a 7 footer?

I'd rather have a 6'8" kid who can play than a 7' project

Jason Bennett says hi.

Question to all of you recruiting experts. How often do you think coaches leak out info regarding interest in one individual/recruit to get another individual to make up his mind sooner?

It happens but most try to play it close to the vest. You can lose a player sometimes when he thinks another player may take his pt.

I will be surprised if he is pursued hard. His style of play doesn't fit what Mick is after for this team long term. However, you do need a low post threat. He does play hard and can block shots but takes far too much setting up for shots.

from telep on twitter:

Recruitment of Robert Upshaw unlikely to materialize until late April. Playing in early April in Paris so he'll be out of pocket

Don't see how a family that was concerned about him being far away from home would send him even further east. Never made sense.
